Pulling Teeth

Pulling Teeth

There's an emergency dentist James but I don't have a dental emergency and as I said in a previous post I'm not in a poition to afford private treatment unless essential. There's nothing that can be done unless more dentists are trained and do NHS work and I know I'm not the only one in this position.

TBH, I was expecting problems when I tried to get an appointment, but to my surprise there were a couple of local people who would see me.

But, honestly, last week, I would have paid whatever I needed to to get it sorted :) .

What about where your folks live (am I right in thinking you're not originally from Cumbria?), couldn't you get to see someone there?

I remember visiting the dentist, after rolling around on the floor in pain for a while, to find out I had eight absesses. Not surprising it hurt, I guess. I had a wisdom out at the hospital a couple of months ago, which had finally decided to come through sideways, wasn't too bad, just a bit bloody for a few days. My first two wisdom extractions were done by the dentist and were no bother at all.

My current dentist is absolutely useless, he barely speaks English and always tells me my teeth are fine, even though, of the few I have left, most have holes and one only has the root left.

this thread has made me feel ill. i didnt go to a dentist for years, and then a few months after putting up with the most excruiating pain (for years) i was brave and went, decided to go private as im a total wuss and wanted gas and air, which the dentist told me i wouldnt remember anything about it - which i did, grrr. had to have my wisdom tooth out, which didnt hurt as much as i was expecting, but still was far from pleasent. one of the worst bits, was the blood going down the back of my throat, and the tooth, when he's finally ripped it free, falling into my mouth, that was horrible.
dentists - evil things

Last june i had some work done and it was private, because i was totally scared of dentist. When i was 15 i had a filling, the dentist didnt numb my mouth enough and they drilled through the tooth into my gum  my mouth wouldnt stop bleeding and i never went to the dentist for years then in june i had to go for an emegency appointment for the same tooth, because i was soo scared when i went i had to be sedated the bill in the end cost me over 2k

i hate dentists :(

Let's put it this way James, the nearest dentist taking on NHS patients is about 45 miles away down a country road and even then there's a 3 month waiting list for an appointment. Just because you're lucky in your area doesn't mean we all are. Actually, Newcastle is probably the second nearest NHS dentist but I daresay they wouldn't take me on because I'm not classed as local :(.
Things over here aren't fantastic either, my dentist dumped me off the books because I missed an appointment - no reminders, no 'oops, where were you, do you still want to stay with us' letter - nothing. Took 15 months to get back in to see them.

i had 2 wisdom teeth out coupel fo years ao 1 was easy 5 minute job one was welll anightmare here goes.

turns out my wisdom tokth roots had wrapped round my jaw bone so i had to see a dental surgeon. i received 7 injections into my mouth before he started he was gonna stop at 5 but i said it wasnt numb enough as i i was lil worried so he gave me 2 more lol. then he shows me xray of my teeth saying what procedure was. he was going to cut open my gum and then using a tiny lil circular saw he was going to have to saw the roots of from teh gum eeeeeek he told me there was a very slim chance of facial paralyses as he would be working near the nerves in the cheeks that controld the muscles on one side of ya face, i was omg lol dint know that, told me i dint have to have it done but i would one day i though if i leave now i aint comming back ever so better get on with it. he started and for all i could here was sawing noise and i could see bits of tooth and blood being sucked up this pipe :( then the rest of the tooth he had to crack into half omg that sounded so bad he was pulling so hard i was sliding outta the seat. anyways 45 mintues 3 stiches a box of anti biotics and £50 later he was done.

i never want that done again lol there wasnt to much pain but whole experieces was just horrible.

I had 5 teeth removed when I had my braces done about 10 years ago. They took out my "fangs" too. But they'd not even fully come out so they cut my gums and yanked them out. I can still "hear" the crunching from when they pulled them out! I have a good set of teeth now though, but the pain and stuff I question if it was worth it! I recently paid to go private for a check up and X Rays, and it cost me £45 and was well worth it. I wouldnt go back to our local NHS one, they enjoy butchering your mouth it seems!

And the prize for outstanding dental horror goes to...

The Fish Dude!

Thats sounds so awfull its untrue!

Well, to give credit where its due, the dentist I went to seems to have made a very neat job, aside from feeling a little weird and a small amount of pain, its hard to believe I had it done less than 24 hours ago, and like I say it was a beast of a tooth.

Sammiboo, £2k??? Bloody hell, that would hurt more than any dentistry!

Trevor, if you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost to have your wisdom teeth out private? I'm told it will cost me around £23 all in (y)

Why do we grow all these bloody teeth? :D

Grrrr i hate dentists!!!!

I had 6 teeth out when i was quite young because of overcrowdedness and ive got a phobia of dentists now!

My wisdom teeth are impacted too, but i dont want to get them taken out because with my luck the dentist will loosen the roots of the teeth nearest them and they'l come out as well!!!

I hate dentists!!!! (n)

You still have to pay with NHS, just less, am I right?

Anyhow, my mouth is now hurting more than ever, is this right? I though it'd be better by now

I had a wisdom tooth out a month or so ago. It was fine for the first day
but nightmare once the anaesthetic had worn off properly. So, yes, it
sounds normal for it to be more painful today. Just keep up with the salt
mouthwashes and I'm sure it will be fine.

I was going to say helz thinks I am a chav, but having just turned 19, I have a feeling even though I am a poor student (who is already in debt to the government) I think I have to pay too.

Some people receiving benefits don't have to pay, but the government has introduced a threshold, so if they decide you can afford to pay it, you still have to pay even if you are receiving a benefit of some kind.

If they decide you can't afford to pay, they send you a letter with your claim renewal which entitles you to free dental treatment, prescriptions, etc.
