Pug 306 diesel pump

Pug 306 diesel pump

the high pressure pump is in the engine bay, it is driven by the cambelt, you really cant miss it. its an easy enough job replacing it.

if you've gonna remove the pump you might as well turn the max fuel setting screw, the different it makes is amazing. i've done it on the bosch pump before, on the top right of the pump there is the max fuel setting screw, you need to reomve the tamper proof thing on it, then turn it clockwise about 10degrees at a time, doing test runs after every adjustment. keep doing that until you're happy with the performance boost and also the amount of smoke. this mod is so easy and makes a hell of a difference. i havent done it on a lucas pump before but i've been told its more difficult because the screw is inside the pump and you need to remove a plastic plug and then use an allen key on the screw inside.

actually while we're on the subject, the 306 has so many great little DIY mods you can do to tune it, for example you can set the max engine speed higher (above 5000rpm), you shouldnt rev it that high, but by changing the limit you reduce the loss of power after 4500rpm.

you can also adjust the boost compensator, which is the bit that injects more fuel when the turbo boosts, there is alock nut on the adjuter screw, loosen it off and have a play about. this doesnt make a huge difference but it still makes an induction kit look pointless.

i'm sure there are loads of detailed guides online describing how to do all this.

Yea, sounds a bit dodge, probably good job you didnt get it. It always amazes me when people sell a car that isnt running and say it will only cost £40 to fix. If its really going to cost £40 to fix, THEN WHY NOT FIX IT THEN SELL IT!! As your guaranteed to make your £40 back by selling a car that is working rather than one that is not!

very true

lol, i looked the car up and it had the head skimmed, went to that bother why not fit a diesel pump
same reason as always, because the pump isnt the problem, thats just a sales pitch to get rid of a broken shed.

i'm pleased you didnt buy it, it would have been a dog, i can tell without even seeing it.

lol @ Jug, i wanted a JTD for a while but couldnt be bothered with putting a clutch in it every week.

my punto is a great little run about, super reliable fairly quick for around the doors. will do me for now, no point in buying an older car that's liable to be less reliable and cost more in the long run.
