Once this wiper motor has been cleaned and the new plug wired on I then have the dreaded task of fitting it. I remember the hassle I had trying to get it out but of course now I can't be as rough as I can't scratch the paintwork.

Of course had I realised the end came off and the spindle comes out it would have been much easier to remove. Doh!

Todays achievement. Not much to look at but once the wiper motor is in I can start routing wires. Oh and those wiper washer pipes will be getting replaced

Have you got a polishing wheel Damian? The body of the wiper motor polishes up really well. Mine looked just like yours before I attacked it. I will see if I find a picture of mine afterwards.

Ooh I found one that shows a glimpse of it. Totally patina free!!!!!

Thanks Tony. I do have a polishing wheel so I'll see how it comes up. By the way your jack, as nice as it is, is stowed the wrong way round.:sly:

What as in upside down do you mean? If so, I know but I found that it was more secure and less likely to scratch the paintwork this way up.

But that's a whole new debate. I am a rebel who has the wrong angle door handles remember.

Don't start that one again Tony! Damian I'm glad to see you remembered to fit the washer pump before the knee pads.
Looking good[emoji2]

No I didn't Sean. I fitted the knee pads, then realised my mistake, removed the knee pad, fitted washer pump, then refitted knee pad

Anyone know exactly what colour the original round speedo and steering wheel were? I have found RAL7035 which looks pretty close. Of course you can paint them any colour you like

What colour are the ones you have? If they are faded/ stained off white ones, try some cutting compound and elbow grease. I cleaned mine up that way and they looked much better and didn't need painting. Also left a bit of patina?

Tried that when I first removed it but the cutting compound didn't cut it. Still looks messy

That's an interesting question and Tony Vitesse might answer with what he used.
There may be different colours of speedo and wheel but RAL7035 looks a little grey to me.The wheel and speedo are slightly different (from each other) on mine, but the wheel was coated in black paint and a thick glove when I bought it. But that might actually have stopped the fading or darkening of the plastic. My car was garaged for most of its abandoned years, well away from light I expect.
I think RAL9018 or RAL9002 are close to the shade. the best my old eyes could match was the first colour on BS4800, which is 00 A 01.

It is all very subjective though.:bang:
It'll look good freshened up any shade of creamy, grey ivory and who is going to check two cars against each other...there's no Patina Police.....or are there.:D:D:D

When it came off it was a grey colour very close to RAL7035 but this was probably due to the sun changing it. At the moment its painted Polykote porcelain white. This doesn't look right against the white of the dash. Kerry wants it the same shade of white but I think this will look too much.

As Peter says I think 9018 is the closest, it does have a slight grey shade to it.

Mine is more of a creamy colour than the original but it doesn't look too bad. I painted everything though as the wheel had cracks in it and needed filling. I will see if I can find out what colour it is by looking through my old emails as I don't have and paint left.

Personally - I wouldn't have it matching the body colour - and to go a step darker would seem correct

I found an email for the order and it was called Plastikote 2118 Super Satin Grey Beige Aerosol 400ml, so I guess my comment about the grey shade makes sense.

But it seems like this particular colour has been discontinued. There are others listed on the link below which are described at grey beige. This one is close. PK-T&S-Sat-GreyBeige22114-RAL1019-x1.
