Na i deffo like the rear bumper it covers up the exhaust and sharpens up the rear end imo, but i do also like the mk1 bumper aswell..
As for the dump valve there a metal pipe that joins onto that top rubber hose and it has a take off for the standard dump valve so i will use this once i have a new top hose.
Ill also get a full on side view tomoz and put it up for ya mate, and i'm sure once your loft is done you could spare a little time on a fiat in need of some lovin :p :p :p

Well, keep both rear bumpers then you could change them at will to suit everyone's tastes ;)

And don't worry, my little Fiat will get some loving soon (y)

Here's them better pics of the side view for ya, i got both sides so you can see all round.
Next on the list is fit my new doors and delock them...:D
Excuse the dirt on the pic's no point in washing it as im still sanding down and removing bits, the roof is white with filler dust

Hi rob i like the pics, will look the tits with a new coat. on the new doors just thought i'd say that i replaced just the skin not the whole door and 2 wings, all original fiat for £90,from fiat caledonian, my door frames were great only the skin died, its always an option, and i could'nt bring myself to mig up door locks, i'm with you on the removal of the tailgate handle and rear bumper, looks great! i dont like how the exhaust used to look dangling (naff) with the mk1 bumper (good mod) i was at the car graveyard today an 2 uno's L,and M,were present, wern't in there because of corrosion, seemed ok, checked the rear top mounts that iv'e had probs with, and guess what THERE ****ED!! nicked a few bits he he, also got loads for my mk2 golf, parcel shelf (mint hens teeth)dash parts, vents, radio surround, etc central locking bits, and loads more if you know what i mean and shoved him a tenner he he good luck with your mk1 ANT!

Yeah just the skins gone on mine but there's a few dent's in them so i got offered the doors for £45 the pair and they are quite good with no dents, as for the front wings well my drivers side wing has a small rust hole in it and the passengers side wing has a dent in it so ill get 2 new wings and then i know it's 100% rot free every where..
As for the paint job..... well im considering in bringing the date forward to a few weeks time because i'm fed up with driving my slow mondeo so im thinking of selling my car and just driving the uno every day because its so fun to drive, how ever if i stick to my original idea then i can just use it as a second car and enjoy it more plus it would stay in better nick but i really don't know what to do.. :bang: :bang:

Use it every day, just keep it really clean and sealed and check it thoroughly from time to time. Fiat's are supposed to be used, they last far longer when they are...................M.

I want to but i live close to the sea so im worried about using it in the wet winter months and rust kicking in, and being a mechanic i dont want oil on that red carpet

Any way im after some side graphics, can you make me some if i pay you through paypall or summit, i thought you could copy ur's as they are the same... (y)

Alright mate.

Since those wheels look so sweet on yer Uno, you gotta change one suspension strut for me on my rover when I drive it upto you soon.

Oh, you will? Cheers mate. :)

To be honest, if you want to keep your UT for a long, looooooooooong time I'd advise NOT to drive it as your main car in the winter months. It's an old car, and in winter you'll not only face the wet and damp possibly ruining your bodywork but you also run more of a risk of having an accident due to poor road/ lighting conditions at that time of year. Bear in mind that by accident I mean more some other idiot running into you, but needless to say a turbo charged hatchback with no traction control or ESP on wet/ icy roads is not a good combination!

Throw into the fact that it is getting VERY hard to find some parts now one slight knock could put it off the road for some time :(

Maybe keep it as a summer fun car, or put it on a classic policy with restricted mileage?

I know I'm concerned with running my little 45S in winter now it's getting so old!

1986Uno45S what a load of BULL!

you dont need traction control and all that crap, I can drive and make my own judgements and i dont need some computer to make decisions for me.

do you know how difficult it is to get parts? my local motor factor can get literally every servicably part, panel, light, everything needed for a Uno Turbo next day.

has no one ever heard of Waxoil underseal? underseal your car and waxoil places that you dont want to rust eg doors wheel arches. it WILL protect from rust.

I'm sorry but i dont see an Uno turbo as a classic, do you really think a it of rain and snow are going to destroy an UT over the winter? lol sorry but a car is to be driven, not hidden away.

Whoah, easy now!

That wasn't my point. You're more likely to have an accident because of OTHER DRIVERS in the winter. Wet, icy and dark roads lead to more chances of skidding plus reduced visibility increasing the 'sorry mate, I didn't see you' factor.

And a turbo charged car that has a 'kick' when the turbo comes in is not the best combination on slippery roads. Even my 45bhp 45S will spin its wheels with little provocation on winter roads...

I can drive and make my own judgements too, and my 20 year driving record shows that I am a very safe driver (maximum no claims on my insurance, 1 non fault accident in 10 years). What I can't account for is other idiots on the road running into my car and whether on a cold day the road up ahead is covered in black ice or not.

Yes, I know how difficult it is to get parts for the mk1 Uno. According to Fiat my car doesn't exist because it is pre-1988 so they won't order anything unless I insist they look up the part for a post '88 model. My local motor factor can't get a throttle cable for me as they are no longer stocked. The lower suspension arm clamps for a Uno turbo are no longer available. Anything to do with the trim is unobtainable and no longer stocked. Brand new ECU's are not available. It's a well known fact that the turbo throttle cable is no longer available (check Ebay to see how much they go for when one does come up). Fiat are notoriously bad at keeping a supply of parts for older models.

Granted that most of the service parts and panels are still available at a price, but that doesn't take into account how much it costs to have them prepped or fitted if the owner can't do it themselves. Plus a slight knock is likely to write the car off unless an agreed valuation has been made when taking out the insurance. For instance, my only knock a couple of years ago wrecked just my steering rack. The insurance company wrote the car off as an uneconomical repair. I fixed it with a second hand rack for next to nothing...

True, but what about suspension arms? Rear beam axle? Exhaust systems? Brake calipers? Ball joints? Rubber gaitors? These can't be covered in Waxoyl and all hate being covered in damp and road salt plus will deteriorate far quicker under winter conditions than in summer.

Plus you have to Waxoyl every couple of years as the stuff doesn't last forever...

Erm, yes, winter will greatly accelerate the deterioration process. Read articles in Practical Classics to see just how much damage winter can wreak on an old car. And judging by how few UT's are left on the road because most have rusted away kind of proves this. That's why countries with dry and temperate climates still have old cars that haven't rusted away, but in the UK many of our cars suffer badly. Maybe one winter won't destroy a Uno turbo, but it can be very brutal on a pristine example. Paintwork doesn't like salt, any water that gets into body seams and then freezes can then crack the sealant/ paint allowing further water ingress and greater chances of rusting.

I've been involved in the owning, running and restoring of old cars (I grew up with 70's cars - trust me they definitely don't like winter!) for many years and have seen what happens when they are exposed to winter elements. It's a sorry fact I know, but winter is brutal on a car.

Don't get me wrong, there is nothing worse than a 'Trailer Queen' car that is kept pristine and never used, and only makes occasional appearances as some car show concours event. Personally I don't like concours cars. If a car is like new then stick it in a museum! And I totally agree that a car is meant to be driven and not hidden away.

But in Rob's case he's making his car 'mint', spending a lot of time and money bringing it up to scratch and was contemplating on whether to drive it all the time or use it as a second 'fun' car. In fact, in his own words he said something about it being a weekend fun car and wants to keep it for a long time.

All I was trying to point out was that it would be a shame to risk spoiling all that work on a car that maybe is not a classic, but is cherished, rare and will be in excellent condition. Plus if he insured it under a classic policy (not necessarily because it is a classic car, but because the insurance is a lot cheaper AND the car is more accurately valued) he'll be able to get the best deal for keeping it on the road. He will also be reducing the chances of it deteriorating and ensures it will stay in good condition to be used on the road for many years to come.

And that, surely, is what it's all about?

Now now people just calm down, i didn't wanna cause a riot... lol

Thing is i'm board to tears with my mondeo, and being a 2ltr i drinks fuel but goes like a 1.2 micra so i just want my uno on the road because it's quick for what it is and yet so fun to drive.
I'm getting it sprayed in a few weeks time now so i gotta pull my finger out, im selling my mondeo then ill use the uno every day and put it in the garage over night so it should stay in fairly good nick, well i hope so.
Then after christmas i'm gonna buy a newer car to use every day and keep the uno for dry nights and weekend use only, i just get really annoyed by being over took by some batty boy in his saxo, so in result of this i'm bringing the uno out to arrouse some chavs and blow them away..
The uno is waxoyl'd all over so it shouldnt rust that quick and like i say ill get another car for every day use after x mas..... (y)

As long as you keep it clean and waxed it will be ok...

You cant have a turbo car and then not take it out in the winter, they love the cold air...

i drove my old mk2 UT over the winter of 2003 everyday!

NEVER went wrong! lol

I used to drop my now X off home (She lives 1/2 a mile away! lol) and drove to work (1.5 miles to and from! lol) over the winter

I loved spinning it up in 3rd! lol

Flick the steering and boot it! LOL!

Getting the front-out...........Rwd style :D

If you use it, protect it.
If not, protect it.

yeah i used mine over two winters and look what i ended up doin ;)

to be fair, i could quite easily use it over winter and it would be fine. but ive come this far, and not bothered about rushing to get it done just so i can use it only a few days when its dry as it wouldnt get used in the week as its too dark. i go to work in the van, and when i need to pick people up, i use my parents 170bhp fabia vrs, so thats a laugh, and would give a standard ut running 1 bar a good run for its money ;) i know from experience ;)

plus its free ins and fuel lol

may as well look after the UT! gotta start thinking of project 2007 now too! lol

Dunc
