Still no dv in the post today...... don't cha just hate royal mail..

Nothing worse than sitting round waiting for the postie and then he turns up empty handed.... so, so far its been 3 days on a first class delivery. Royal mail you suck (n) (n)

Dude, for a parcel, first class is 3-5 days. Big parcels are 5-7.

They do suck, but that's not the point. =)

Well people....

After being so hacked off about my dump valve not arriving, i decided to get my hands dirty by removing my rear bumper and yes you guessed it those horrible crappy bolts that hold the bumper.... yep they all turned in there hole but after some mole grips i got them out..
While the bumper was off i saw a small bit of surface rust as you can see it the pic so im gonna treat this on saturday and have it all smooth ready for paint.
I just hung the mk2 bumper on there just to get a feel of what it will look like when its on, and some one said about what will it look like from the side so i took a pic of that an all, the bumper lines up perfect on the corners...
What do ya think.....:D

Mk2 bumper looks much meatier from the back, but is it to meaty in the side profile? If it looks good side on then stick with it! (y)
Really like how the Uno is coming on, i've read thru this and duncs and i'm getting the UnoT itch..... a little bit to much me's thinks!
And i know where there is one for sale..... arghhhhhhh

The mk2 bumper makes it look tall and skinny imo, still looks nice though.

Have you got a full side on picture with the mk2 bumper on ?

Not yet mate i will be working on her getting it all stripped down cus the spray job is now less than 8 weeks away and i got loads to do..
Ill take a side on pic on saturday because at the mo i have half the engine in bit's so i cant get it out the garage..
Imo it looks far better as the mk1 bumper isnt very tall and you can see all the boot floor but the mk2 has a deeper drop and covers up the wider wheels better, but every one has there own tastes and i quite like it.. (y)

The trouble is, now you need the towing eye :)

-Alex

Yeah i noticed that aswell mate, might go back to the scrap yard and cut it off the scrap uno and then weld it into place on mine?
Off to fit my dump valve which has now arrived... :D :D :D :D :D :D

Dont bother with the towing eye, just gives you an excuse not to tow anyone :p

Next door are gunna be happy tonight then...

Re: Project mk1 going good 8 weeks till paint job.

Well i fitted my dump valve and it sounds great...(y)

I took of the pipe from the air flow meter to the turbo which is a absolute nightmare to get to so i removed the battery and the bracket that holds the air flow meter on,as you can see from the photo and i removed the standard dump valve, the only thing i could find to block the hole up was a locking wheel nut key it fitted perfect see the pic with it hanging out....lol

I also removed my injector cooling fan thing that runs underneath the inlet as i didnt have the fan so no point in keeping that black tube in there..
My top hose was really soft and had swelled up twice the size so i looked through my box of hoses that i got given when i bought the car and there was one in there like new so i used a new top hose to join my t-piece on..
The sound of this valve is amazing kicks in at around 2500 rpm wooooooossssssssshhhhhhhhh :D :D :D :D , i just had to take her round the block and my god it turned a few heads.:p
Gonna go down to a place tomoz that sells blanks and grab some proper one's, i cant keep the wheel nut key in there can i...
Will post pic's of the finished job tomoz as it was gettin dark..

Re: Project mk1 going good 8 weeks till paint job.

Good on ya. I remember my first DV moment. Cranked the boost up and the bleed valve for the gay-on-all-days-of-the-week, Single-Piston dump valve to the point where the car was nearly choking, hammered it down the road with my window down and couldn't believe it!
I was basically laughing the whole time driving it .... bunch of kids came upto me, one of which I knew, and said "whoa do that fisshhh thing, go on go on!!"

My mates in the car a while later thought I had a turbo in the gearbox or something crazy. "No, it's pressure release from the turbo" "Wel m8 I dno wot dat iz but it sounz neet as ***"

Took a while to get it to fit and work ok, only prob is is that my dumo valve covers over the oil filler cap as the valve get's in the way of the throttle linkage, so i need to use my head today and sort out the correct location of the dump valve..:p

awesome mate, glad you got it fitted ok :) As for the dv hitting the oil cap and throttle, how about spinning the dv so its sticking out the other side?

tis rather loud hehe ;) sound mint tho! proper big tishhhhhhhhh(y)

the rear bumper looks awesome, love the rear shots, mind u i would say that lol ;) looks like mine but red :D

Dunc

You can see in the photo dunc that the linkage is one side and the cap is the other, it wont clear the linkage so it had to go over the oil cap instead but at least it works, and thanks for posting it down to me your a top man..

Well been busy today i cleaned all the rust up on the back behind the bumper just surface rust but wanted it all mint every where.
I also fitted the rear bumper on using all it's mounts and fitted the old number plate to get a idea of what it will look like once finished how ever i do have gb plates and sticky pads which will look loads better..
I took some pic's from both sides as you can see that 1 wheel is still black but i'm gettin it off slowly with thinners and it's bloody hard work..
I am surposed to be stripping it down ready for painting but i just cant resist taking her up the lanes near me for a good hard drive, but when its all done and taxed i will be using it at weekends and only in dry weather, wanna keep it mint.. :yum:

Im still saying Black blades...

Cant you mount the dumpvalve off the main metal boost pipe with a little samco like you do with a punto gt...

You could always buy the main smaco pipe with the dumpvalve outlet...

Hmm, not 100% sure on the rear bumper personally. It makes the rear look 'tall', also a bit pear shaped and a bit 'modern'. It does look better with regards to the exhaust, but the original bumper looks kind of more, maybe, beefy and retro?

It's all down to taste I suppose!

Oh, and the side view I wanted to see was one where you can see the whole car. That way we can see how the rear bumper matches up with the front. Actually, I think the side view will look fine as the turbo front bumper has a lower lip than standard, much like the rear. Just not convinced on the rear view!

As for the dump valve, perhaps get some more turbo hose and move the valve further forward. That way it will clear the oil cap and also the linkage, and you will be able to mount it either side.

Whatever, your progress is amazing considering you've done so much and I haven't even washed my car in that time

If I didn't have a loft to renovate, re-insulate and re-wire I'd be outside working on my Uno... :bang:
