Problems starting (Loses power and dies!) and other problems

Hi Everyone,

I was just wondering if any of you could help me out.

I have recently bought a K-Reg Fiat uno 1.0i.e. (999cc)

If I have left my car overnight or for any period of time (whilst at work) when I go to start my car, it starts, then just seems to lose power and just stops!

The only way I can seem to keep it going is to hold the accelerator down... It then very slowly picks up speed and then chugs a bit before revving up. At this point it always lets out a big puff of blue smoke and then it seems alright - It's then fine starting for a couple of hours after. This problem occurs even in warm dry weather... What's going on?? Is it going to be a problem, and does anyone know how to fix it??

Also My brakes seem very hard to press (my girlfriend has a H-reg Nissan Micra and her brakes are nice and light) i've nearly hit a wall trying to park because they are harder than expected!! Are Uno brakes hard to press down (i'm getting used to it now, but it is a worry!), is this normal?

And while i'm here I have another problem. My Speedo, when I start driving (upto about 40) it wobbles slightly, then at arounf 60 -70 (sometimes as low as 50) it will suddenly start waving about +/- 5 miles per hour around the proper speed, this is always accompanied by a sound like sand or rain hitting the dash board... I don't know what's wrong with it, and i'm not sure whether a speedo like this is safe.

oh, and my rear screen washer jet doesn't work, it make the noise but no water comes out of the tube! I found out after I bought it though that the tube leading to the was not attachd to the jet and has broken the little plastic nib that the tube fits into, can this be replaced if I can get water to actually squirt out of it? And if so how much would it cost (is it easy to do by mt self (i'm not very experinced with cars!)?

I'd be grateful for any suggestions you have!

Thanks

Chris.

First of all is it carb or SPI(injection)

1-i think that's a fuel supply problem or it's burning oil

2-The stiff brakes are normal on cars without a vaccum booster (check if yours does, it's a large circular thing between the master cylinder and the firewall)

3-the speedo probably has a broken conector on the tranny or isn't fully inserted

hope this helps
(next time you should break up the question over severall threads and give more detailed info;) )

I'm not sure if it's Carb or SPI... How do you tell??

I'm afraid my knowledge of cars is not very extensive, infact it's quite small... So, i'm not sure what a tranny is (well the only ones i've heard of wear skirts!!).

Also the firewall and master cylinder I know roughly what they are but i'm not completely sure exactly where to look!

Sorry, but i'm a complete novice!!

I'll Break the questions up like you have recommended, thanks for your help!!

The clue is in the name - ie = injection!

RE the brakes, in the engine bay behind the distributor there should be a thick(ish) pipe going from near the inlet manifold to the back of the engines firewall (a brown cover). Thats the brake vacuum booster pipe. It should be attached tightly and have no splits in it...
