How come you can't buy the NI plates from DVLA? No problems keeping them on at all?

The only way you can get a certain N.I plate is by contacting the DVLNI in Coleraine and request they release the number. Then it gets tricky. The DVLNI then release the reg along with others (first 1000 run of a new plate) to an auction house called Wilsons who once every month hold a reg auction and the plate you want will be auctioned. You then have to take your chances that no-one else wants it and if your lucky you get it but have to put it on your car straight away as for some silly reason in N.I you cannot put and N.I plate on retention
I'm hoping to sell "Can't remember the 3 letters at the mo as I'm having a senior moment" but it ends *** 7733 after xmas and maybe ENZ 7750 later in the year if anyones interested.

My Missus bought me mine for my 40th for obvious reasons.

My Volvo is registered L11VLV because its my 52nd Volvo, purely a private joke. No one ever notices the plate except for some strange reason when I take the car to Austria people love it. They'll come up to me in petrol stations there to ask about the number plate!

The whole thing makes me laugh, however, I did once look for one to reflect my future career, like "C yyy ENG" and they are all well above £1k on DVLA.

Apart from the idea of people spending money on something like this making me laugh, so does DVLA's uselessness:

The 96 series of registrations will be available in June 2046. Full details will appear on our website closer to this date.

I bet you they won't, I will hold them to it but I am pretty damn sure that in if I wait 40 years that they won't be on their website :).

Last time I checked the message said "Please check back shortly"

I just found the plate i have always wanted since getting my first car, its £250 on DVLA and when using the option to view on a car, when selecting stilo, its on a black stilo!!!!!

Wanna buy it, wanna buy it, wanna buy it......

OH NOOOO! Missus found M70PSM (Month/Year of Birth & Initials) and still tempted as I think it would look very smart on my black Stilo on those chrome number plate carriers... :D

Just seen one that looks like my name on the dvla site, its

L55 EDM - Which basically stands for my name 'Lee Edmunds'

What you guys think, looks like my name or not? Its 250 on the car basically

You're missing the 'point', it is always pointless, it's like changing your Fiat badge to say "TYIAY", it means nothing and achieves nothing.

You're 16, why not concentrate on buying useful things and learn to drive rather than wasting it on things which have no use in any way whatsoever.

By the way, ignore me if you sometimes forget your name and therefore want a personalised plate with your name on, also consider a tattoo for the same reason :)

Why not indulge yourself later in life when you can afford to. I am probably biased however since I have never understood personalised plates.
