Have a look on eBay. There are aftermarket electric power steering kits you can buy, often these are aimed at the classic VW scene but they may have something you can use

I believe there were some in far flung places that had some very low end budget cars with pout power steering, very few and far between though.

My own MKII (2002) comes w/o Power Assisted Steering. I didn't like the idea of PAS and I asked the dealer I bought my Punto (brand new) to get me a car w/o PAS.

First off, for males who are into BB as I was at the time, handling a Punto without PAS means some extra workout for my biceps, my triceps and my forearms, completely free of charge too while I am paying 50 bucks for my gym subscription.

Secondly, Mk II's without PAS have got a lower fuel consumption too compared to Sporties and Puntos with PAS.

Ur probably looking at a mk1 punto bits then.... which aint thay common....

But getting a 2nd pulley installed to drive the pump....

Eh... i think a donor car electronics swap would probably be the better option....

I think for a 2000 (18y/o) car.... i personally dont think its worth it....

It is definitely worth it if you live in Greece. You don't understand. Taxation here is absolutely insane, and the Govt severely punishes people who buy new cars by imposing insane taxes and levying insane fees.

I just did a thorough paint job on my 2002 Mk II Punto (cost me 1100 euros) and I spent 950 euros too installing a BRC Sequent Plug & Drive advanced LPG kit (one of the best and most expensive Italian after market LPG kits in the market) as I will be driving this car for another ten years minimum since the Govt is prohibiting me (and others) from buying a new car due to insane taxes.

Here's a sample of how insane it is to live in Greece:

The price of gasoline in Greece is the fifth most expensive IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD because of insane taxes. It is not uncommon here for people to pay 70% of their income to the State in the form of taxes.

Unleaded has got the same average price with Italy and Netherlands and it's just a few cents cheaper than Unleaded sold in Hong-Kong, perhaps the country with the world's most expensive standards of living. Norway and Iceland and 1st and 2nd in the list, Monaco is 3rd, HK is fourth and Greece and Italy 5th and 6th in the list.

Oh and Unleaded sold here is much more expensive than unleaded sold in the United Kingdom (19th in the list), a country where the Average Per Capita Income is 5 or 6 times higher than Greece.
