I do electronic lapscoring at an oval track in derbyshire, the room we work from is very very cold up there this time of year and I was given a gas heater panel to use, I already had a full propane bottle to use it with.

I bought a regulator for it, now before I connect it to the gas bottle I am unsure on how to light it - never had anything likg this before, I will let the pics explain

The first pic is the front of the heater panel, there is a slot in the bottom of it, is this where I light it? [marked with a small A]

This pic is the back of it, marked B is a push down button, its not an ignition button

Basically, just need to know how to light it, I need to use it this weekend but I have the gas bottle, pipe and regulator ready to test right now

thanks

OK, its a fairly basic manual ignition device.

Please remove the fuel pipe and get proper orange external grade gas hose.

Button B is a flame failure device. To get the gas to come through to the burner you switch on the gas at the bottle, the gas should not flow.

Press button B, this should allow gas to reach the burner, you will hear a hiss.

Immediately light the gas near the bottom while keeping your finger on button B.

Once the burner has lit, keep finger on button B for 15 seconds or so.

The copper pipe type thing going to the burner is a thermocouple. The application of heat on the tip of the thermocouple produces a small magnetic charge at the other end to hold the gas valve open.

The heater should now stay lit until you turn the gas off.

Please be aware this type of heater is using the air roundabout it and replacing it with carbon monoxide, only use in a well ventilated area for your own safety.

Sorry for doing that 'big' but its quite important

thanks rc (y)

I already know about the pipe I have one that came with the regulator, the fuel pipe fitted to the burner was on it when it arrived

the room in which it will be used is well ventilated, a door in the middle [open 90% of the time anyway] and at one end and many holes in the walls and roof

normally I would prefer to use electric heater but the generator wont provide enough power for one, this heater will only be used if I am bitter cold and not for long periods of time, not a fan of gas at all.

Nothing wrong with gas heaters if treated correctly.

Make sure the hose you have been given is 'in date'. Gas is corrosive to rubber and can cause hardening and eventually cracking of the pipes.

A good check is to bend the hose tightly while looking for cracking.

Any cracks at all, discard.
