I have a Scudo JTD it is rubbish to start in the mornings so glow plugs I hear you cry but..........after driving for half a hour I parked up turned it off counted to three and started it and although it started better it still was not good.

does anyone know of common causes?

Crank position sensor or Cam position sensor probably on the way out.

Try a Search for those on here, see if the symptoms in other Threads match yours (y)

If this is just recently then I'm not surprised it's difficult starting, it's still wintertime out there - 0.5 deg this morning.
these low temps will completely ruin a half-dead battery.
The fact that it starts fine when warm does suggest battery. (BTW, I'm assured that glowplugs are really only there to stop the smoking of cold engines.

Thanks for the input guys I am returning it to the garage where I brought it tomorrow as I have had it less than a week, so will report back with findings.

A thought had come to me about mass air flow meter?
