I love this quote
"Ive had to resort to putting the car into neutral and coasting down hills to improve the fuel consumption on my 1.4, I love the car to pieces but HATE the MPG."
Did you know, that in cars nowadays you actually use more fuel by coasting than if you did if you had it in gear?
I'll explain..
If you're rolling down a hill in 4th Gear, with feet of all pedals, your ECU tells your injectors to stop injecting fuel, full stop.
As soon as you put that clutch in, the revs drop and the car goes back to idle, in which the car has to inject fuel back into the engine to keep the car ticking over.
So, at no point are you using no fuel. However, I am using no fuel and I'm in 4th gear cruising down a hill.
I'm sure Tom will disagree with me somewhere, but it's true
64.4MPG.
Thank you very much.
