Someone im in contact with has been given in my eyes very poor advice.
a 2016 twin egr 130 2.3
"P0487-74 and P0486-13 fault codes and on the advice of the mechanic I’ve booked it in with someone to map it out "
P0486 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor B Circuit
P0487 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Throttle Position
P0487 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Throttle Position Control Circuit
P0487 EGR position derives positive DC motor (opening insufficient)
I'm asuming the HPegr is blocked/ stuck and motor is struggling. the Sensor B any one know which sensor this is. If i could get live data we could be sure which egr hp or lp. in my database of codes there is no reference to LPEGR.
the 486-13 is open 'open circuit' possibly means there's a break in the wiring loom or connector at some point?

I know nothing about later stuff, however what diagnostics have you got, I use MAXIECU but I know most here use MES and I was wondering if a full version of one of these could be used to trigger operations /actuation's to pin point the faulty area.
Before I got the MAXIECU I occasionally had access to a friends Snap On Zeus with all the latest updates, either way apart from disconnecting a sensor or plug and reading a code after that to see if relevant it's a bit tricky.
I agree re the poor advice given to your friend, even if "mapped out" the faulty part blocked stuck or what ever is going to be causing ongoing problems.
Recently one of my sisters went to a garage and after a several days wait was told she had a O2 sensor fault and was told it was seized and would probably involve a new Cat etc. plus the sensor cost £500 plus. They pointed to the O2 sensor at the back of the engine. She was visiting me for a very short time, but I put a cheap diagnostic tool on and read the code as heater element open circuit on downstream O2 sensor, car is running fine after a 250 mile journey, however more to the point the sensor they were trying to" free off"" was the up stream one, so assuming they broke it off and had to replace the cat and sensor at great cost the fault related to the down stream one so would have still been there, also even if they replaced both sensors as the error code indicated open circuit it could still be in the wiring possibly up to and including an ECU fault, so you could imagine the mounting bill they would demand!!!
With idiots like that you can see why scrapyards are full of rust free cars, given that very few mechanics/garage have enough EV trained the Environmentalists will have all cars off the road soon enough.
Maybe we will become the Third World Country with an Oxen pulling a old broken car;););)
 
Given the problems reported on this forum regarding twin egr 2.3 , I too think it is dreadful advice. It should be fixed correctly back to running order.

Getting functions mapped out is a mine field of people who don't know what they are doing altering maps in the hope they hit the correct parts of the map. On very high volume vehicles altered maps that do what they state they will do can appear and be shared around. On twin egr 2.3 less likely.

Plus someone has recently posted on Ducato section with many many additional faults following a remap to delete a function.
