Can anyone please help my partners 1.2 500 2016 plate is driving her mad spent nearly a grand on it. It has developed a code p0106 been to two garages replaced MAP sensor three times last on a £184 main dealer part and new battery stop/start switch under passenger side dash. Light still coming on garage has not got a clue. I think it could be blocked Cat or inlet manifold leaking. Anyone have any ideas please.

The P0106 is related to the "MAP sensor", so changing the MAF sensor could have been a good place to start.

But some cars have separate MAP (inlet manifold pressure) and MAF (air intake pressure) sensors, so if they swapped the MAF sensor and the 1.2 also has a MAP sensor (I don't know if it has or not) then the obvious place to look is the MAP sensor.

If there is a combined/single MAP/MAF then that's usually in, on or near the throttle body, so a leak around here could be causing a sensor to light up.. but it doesn't sound like a sensor problem.. more something "analogue".

I don't think it's the Cat.. If you can't see anything odd, there are no other sensors other than the one that's been swapped, then the place to look is at what the wiring is doing .. check the signals in and out of the MAF and/or MAP sensors and compare them to what should be happening. You might need an auto electrician, if they know about MAFs and MAPs.

Does the car have any dubious driving symptons? I presume it just drives "okay" but the light keeps coming on?

Yes the car drives OK. When you drive the car it's fine after clearing codes I have code reader but soon has you come to tickover the light comes on. Sorry I have replaced the map sensor it doesn't have a maf sensor. I have edited the above sorry.

Hi,

£1000 so far eeek!!!!

My guess is the code reader you are using is only giving you part of the code. More advanced readers can give an extra two digits which can help get to actual problem.

You are not the only person to suffer this problem.


My second guess is the carbon canister (evap canister) solenoid valve is leaking which could cause p0106 27
Do not use a second hand solenoid valve it too could be faulty.

Plus check for any potential leaks into inlet manifold such as vacuum pipe to brake servo etc.
Faulty evap solenoids have previously come up on the forum a few times which is why that was my first suggestion.

That's great news my code reader is the multiecuscan and it has thrown that very code p0106-27 I took a screen shot of it last night.

Indeed they have.

One cause of EVAP faults is overfilling the tank when refuelling. The fuel system is designed to operate with an air space of around 3-5 litres and it's important to avoid overfilling the tank by dribbling fuel into it. Never try to fill beyond the point where the fuel dispenser shuts down automatically for the second time. The handbook contains a clear and specific warning about this.

The parts (at least the OEM ones) aren't cheap. Folks having EVAP faults fixed by franchised dealers have reported bills well into four figures, so I'd say it pays to heed the handbook warning.

I asked the misses this and she said she hasn't brimmed it bit it still doesn't mean it's not a faulty solenoid.
