General please help me :-(?

hi,

just bought a punto sporting 1.4 2004 model,
i love it to bits to be honest,
although i can't drive it yet :-(
was wondering if someone could give me a bit of help ..
there is a knocking noise coming from the front passenger side,
i can describe it as .. it sounds as if there is a branch stuck in between the wheel and the wheel arch, you could imagine that noise.
It only seem's to happen when your just taking off ..
its going into the garage on monday, but i'd like to know what it is roughly before it goes in, can anyone help ???

all i can think of is brake binding to be honest , anything else would be a knocking or banging

id say driveshaft if it was when its on full lock, but it could be the brakes biting, did it sit a while before you bought it??? have the pads, discs and calipers checked, asap

I had a problem similar to this on my old Mk2 punto it turnt out to be a CV joint

If it happens every time you take off it could also be an engine mounting thats gone.

its nothing to do with the brakes, its when im taking off not when im braking :-S

so its a cv joint or engine mount ?

sithepuntoguy cud be right a slightly sticky piston wud clunk when it first releases -- poss engine mount -- shocker on its way out -- snapped spring -- really need to jack car up and rock wheel

Yea, sometime, you'd also normally feel it when driving and use more fuel.

One way to tell is after a drive along dual carrage way etc, feel if one wheel is really hot

CV joint cost me a new driveshaft which was about £120 iirc. i forgot about the mount as mentioned. nearly every punto i have had has needed a new gearbox mount. i got one from scrap yard for £6 fitted it myself. easy peasy.

I'd say gearbox / Engine mount (most likely gearbox). Or CV joint. Or maybe a worn suspension bushes although that would be more evident while cornering.
