pig in a poke

Hi all im mark and im now the owner of a fiat multipla.
I bought it today and have now found the revs are chokey and is bad to reach over 2000 rpm. When pressing the acc pedal slowly the car revs fine its just getting it passed 2000 thats the problem.
The engine is a 1.6 16v
Does it have an egr valve fitted or not.
Any help is gratefully recieved.
I used to drive a zafira but electrics were a problem.
Hopefully i can sort this multipla out and have the family transported about again.
