I'll have this last bit, then all can applaud Glynn's newly aquired gem.

I don't see mods as the devils spawn or have any negative opinions on anyone that does. We all have to agree that Doc's car is one special B and applaude him for the constant work improving both looks and performance. Had it been my car I wouldn't have spent any time on the performance side but completely agree re the overall asthetics in preservation. It's what I normally do to all of my cars albeit not to quite the same degree. I have never owned a car where it has not been recognised as a very good clean example of the make and take pride when complimented upon. I was always complimented on the Barchetta as was recently the Sisley Panda and the 735.

The performance of the B is pretty marginal in the real world but has nothing to prove, it is what it is. Most bog standard 2.0lt family saloons would easily keep up and most familly saloons are easilly capable of 120-130mph these days but then even my little panda diesel will do over the ton. So if I was out in the barchetta driving down the motorway the smallest of engined vehicles have the ability to pass cause I wouldn't normally drive the barchetta at a ton. Performance wise it does have it's advantages even in standard form, when dropped to third and booted at 50 on a country road it will overtake with ease and quicker than most cars I have driven making overtaking far less dangerous primarily because it's light and agile, it's also pretty sharp and manouverable in standard form, yes it can be bettered but if you are driving beyond the cars standard limits I just hope I don't meet you comming the other way :)

I can understand performance mods as those that have the Barchetta and love it so much, maybe don't want to buy a quicker sports car and for that reason want to improve their B. I was more than happy but wouldn't frown on those that aren't.

So for all those that mod and wish to do so I applaude your work, for those that keep the Barchetta or any other car in the best standard condition you can I equally applaude you, it's what makes us enthusiasts and what brings a smile to your face when you park up and just have to look back for that second glance when walking away.

well.. after all the job of the man of the city (polis=city) is to keep the peace

Keeping the peace is not delivering instant and finetuned justice in an argument about an neighbours overgrown hedge that went sour. Its to make sure that the peace is no longer disturbed by making sure that the shouting match is taken off the street.
The argument is now behind walls, hence the peace on the city street is no longer disturbed.

Ok, it might also become his job later on when one of the involved parties cuts off the other ones head with the gardenshears, but THAT is something completely different, and has nothing to do with keeping the peace
:)

Glad that's cleared up then!

I was thinking about this last night and why manufacturers don't always fit the best parts when I remembered a chat I had with someone on a project with a car manufacturer.

I can't say which one and certainly can neither confirm nor deny that it was the last incarnation of the Ford Escort.

Anyway, they had quite a few delays and were working long days and weekends to catch up. They were there until 1am the last day of the project and there were at least forty outstanding serious problems. He (or she) came in the next day wondering how they were going to get on only to find all the documents and so on for that model had been cleared away. He asks his boss what's going on to be told, we've finished with that model we're on to the next now! What about the outstanding problems he asks, "not our problem any more" is the reply.

I know some manufacturers are better than that but I'm told this is not as uncommon as you'd think.
