Today, when I returned home, I had a parcel of things and stuffs I had bought from LouieBee, including...
A dashboard cluster with rev counter.
An exhaust pipe between engine and air filter.
A wire for the counter that goes between the cluster and the umm.. erm.. actually.. what does it go to?
A distributor cap.
So, once again, I completely forgot to start taking pictures as I started, preferring to start, remove something, then remember to take pictures and start snapping. Here we have the severe lack of pipe between the air filter box by the carb, and the top of the engine. I had already removed it.
Took the metal filter out with a pair of pliers. It was covered in horrible oily crud.
Look! Horrible oily crud!
..oh, and here is a close up picture of the old pipe.
The solution was very hot water, washing up liquid, and a toothbrush!
This cleaned it up a treat! (also, the first ever picture of my fingers!
)
Oooooooh! It's very pretty! Just like a spirograph picture!
Put it all back together inside the new tube, after running a clean(ish) oily rag through it, and connected up. Job done!
This is my speedo cable.
His name is Jeff.
Please Say hello to Jeff.
Jeff is pleased to meet you.
What condition is he in? Is he too rounded round the edges? Should he have have right angled chiseled features?
Could this be why my speedo has been so cack and yo-yo like?
This is what he did to himself yesterday.
Usually I give him a hard flick and corrects back to the rough area he should be in, but not this time.
He hurt my finger.
He was stuck fast.
So stuck in fact, he scratched his way into the cluster!
So stuck in fact, he bent himself!
But more on that later. Time for the rev counter cable!
Here is a picture of the hole in the bulkhead that I put the cable through.
It runs from the centre-most (far left) contact on the top right hand side plug on the cluster, to umm...erm.. see top of page.
I have taken the same picture, but with no flash, so you can see the light hole that leads into the engine bay, after you remove a rubber bung
Here is where it pops out, left hand side of the engine bay, against the bulkhead.
Here you can see that, because the wire is soldered onto the plug, I had to run the wire through the loom plug and then through the rest of the engine bay.
All pluged in and screwed back in place. Lets hope I don't have to take it back out to fix anything!
Just testing that all (petrol, temperature and bulbs) gauges work. Don't worry, I managed to catch the hazard light when it was on, it does go out and the indicators work too!
Which of these wires do I need to connect to the rev counter?
EDIT: It's the left-most of the two green wires.
Oh, and I also changed over a distributor cap that LouieBee sent too!
That's about it really. Its taken me over an hour to write this, from taking the pictures from the phone, to typing this. Hope you liked it!
Thanks for the bits LouieBee!
