Fantasia

More fun today. The Fantasia ran like the air was made of treacle this evening. Grrrr!

So I found myself under the bonnet again...

..this time using my head light instead of the step ladder stack.

The black crap that was all over the the outside of the carb' was inside the jets as well. I swapped the jests over form the original Fantasia carb' and she's running at about 90%

I'll see if I can find some carb' cleaner to see if that helps.

Re: Fantasia

it probably just needs setting up now.. you heard how rough, lumpy and bumpy mine was running before the carb was set up. now it runs as good as fuel injection.
i am looking for a decent co2 reader so i can calibrate it again now its been used a bit.

Looks like your becoming the Vern of the north!!....no need to get a job, your turning yourself into a job.

Fantasia

I've found my old MkI 965cc Panda 4x4 carb' in my shed...

...I've adapted the throttle linkage so it will fit the Fantasia cable and made a couple of bolts for it to fit the inlet manifold. I have the magic mushroom filter to see if it works but will need to make an adapter plate to use the original air box.

Fantasia

The 4x4 carb' mounts at a perpendicular angle to the Fantasia one so it's a no go there. While I had the carb off again I noticed emulsion deposited at the bottom of the carb' where the vacuum advance, sump breather and carb' diaphragm ports are. So I cleaned it out before refitting to see if this was causing the vacuum pressure to be low, cleaned all the pipes as well and tested the carb' diaphragm. Again no difference whatsoever. The timing is spot on. The fuel mix is near perfect, the alternator is fine so there's plenty of volts going to the coil to feed the nearly new spark plugs. This is really starting to **** me off and the green Panda Fantasia may soon be extinct.

Have you checked for air leaks on the inlet manifold?

Fantasia

I've checked everything imaginable.

I've also just had the misfortune of driving my sisters Corsa. Driving a car that crap reminds me how good my Panda is so my perseverance is rekindled. :)

Fantasia

I have one of those but the holes don't line up. :bang:

I had another theory. If the vacuum advance wasn't working properly due to a lack of vacuum caused by the head gasket blowing exhaust gas through the sump breather. Just ran the car around the block with the pipe blocked off and it as usual made no difference.

Changing companies but doing the same job means my final paycheck is £400 short and I won't see another one for at least five weeks. This means both the Fantasia and racing Panda will have to wait.

This also means I'll not be able to afford to make it to the £999 Challenge this year so if anyone wants a half caged 750 shell or other parts let me know.

It was an idea I had years ago using a Panda or Cinquecento body and a Reliant Scimitar chassis (hence the V6 rather than a V8) to build a Topolino style Hotrod. Replacing the fiberglass body with a metal one would only make the car slower so it was shelved. ;)
