Hi everyone I currently own a 63 plate Fiat Panda Twin Air Automatic. Milage:63000 miles. The problem I am having is when the the automatic changes gear from second to third it sometimes makes a cruching sound. I did have a engine management light come on and the gearbox went into netural whist moving and had to stop and restart the car for the gearbox to work again. I'm a total novice on cars so any help or guidance would be much appreciated.

That does sound as if there is something not quite right..
Have a look at that Duologic information discussion
If the warning light comes on ..it SHOULD store an error code
This might be the best way of attempting to diagnose what is wrong..
The gearbox uses LOTS of sensors to control its function.. figuring out which ones are flagging errors could save some expensive parts swapping.
