General Panda ESP???

General Panda ESP???

Here's what happened to me:

I was driving well inside the limits. It was dark, moist and I knew the road was slippery. I managed to do 15 miles of twisty road without breaking a sweat. Then there was this long straight...speed still the same...an animal jumped in front of my car and right back off the road. I subconsciously jerked with the steering wheel trying to avoid the hit and made my car drift sideways...I managed to fix it with steering into oposite direction. The moment it all happened, I drove over a bump which ejected my car slightly. Next thing I know, I was hanging on my seatbelt watching my butchered fingers and inhaling smoke...

It certainly was human error, I won't deny that. The thing is though, these kinda things happen when least expected. And please, what has power and speed got to do with it? How many accidents did you have in your life? You sound so sure of yourself not getting hurt out there on the road...honestly, its creepy. Public roads arent racing tracks.

As for your friend - as I said, of course, having all that assistance doesnt mean you can go out driving bulletproof. In certain situations though, it can be helpfull. And it wont make mistakes like humans do.

Best of luck to both of you...

i thought the whole point of esp was to stop vehicles falling over? ie the merc A class. if i'm buying a new car i would expect it not to fall over when turned, although as some people have said on here theres the rare time when it is needed when avoiding something at speed.

personally it's not a feature i'd want. though it can be compared to ABS which i'm sure has helped stop a lot of accidents, but it can present problems in some cases.

I think that the conclusion we're getting to is that everyone wants different results from their cars. I want a fun car like many others, whereas some want a machine to get them from A to B.

I've said it before and I will say it again. I do not think I'm invinsible, but I do not want to go my whole life worrying about what could happen. I would rather drive in my own style and keep myself to myself than become a hesitant driver that annoys everyone else on the roads. Again, this is my opinion and it is not intended to hurt anyones feelings if you believe differently.

Gofra, sorry to hear about your accident. I once had a couple of Pheasants run out in front of me as I was coming round a bend on a country road. They are the most stupid animals - when they see you coming they freeze and then at the last minute they decide to run further into the road rather than onto the verge. You can tell they are no relation to Magpies!! ;)

Hehe, believe me, even if there is a poor soul out there, that bought the 100HP for using it to go from A to B...well, I bet he (she) has found a whole new meaning to the word FUN by now ;)

Its ok, Layney, we all share different oppinions, thats perfectly normal ;)

I found myself landing on the roof for the second time now...as for the animals on the road, I stopped counting - no crahses though, except for this last one (no direct impact with the animal though).

The moment I stepped out (erm...climbed tbh) of the car I said to myself thats it, I'm done driving. Few days later I forgot about it and today I cannot wait to get back on the road - I just love to drive. I do think however each and every one of us should feel just a bit aware of things that might happen out there - not worried, just slightly concerned. You know, with open eyes, watching, being aware of what goes on...The fact is, public roads are a dangerous place to be today, with so much metal on them. Im not talking about the statistics here - I see it everyday:

- girls putting on makeup while driving
- youngsters using cell phones while driving
- elderly folks connecting to the highway doing 35
- no one cares about the safety distances
- everyone wants to be the first one to the traffic lights
-...no one sees the cyclists no more (rode bike to the job daily)
.
.
.

I used to have this "nothing can happen to me, its all in my hands" attitude awhile ago and I wish I could be as relaxed on the roads as I was back then. I fear I cannot anymore - sadly.

Anyway, I got carried away - we should all be having fun with our (soon to be-grrr!) 100HPs, be it with or without the ESP ;)

Nice post Gofra! :)

I agree with the above. You see people driving a bit wierdly - and low and behold as soon as an overtaking opportunity arises you see that they're on the phone or smoking.

Where are the police when you need them?

How about them braking past every exit of the motorway, then you pass to find they have a map spread full across the steering wheel..... or driving along the motorway erratically due to eating a Mullerice?

I kid you not....

NOOOOO!!!! I've seen the map thing, but not seen anyone eating a muller rice (or similar yoghurty food). Next, you'll see someone eating a full roast dinner ;)
