General Panda Cross 4x4 off the configurator

General Panda Cross 4x4 off the configurator

Not convinced.

Seems pretty unlikely to me.

More likely will be the 1.0 Firefly but with a turbo, as in the Tipo etc. Might be downrated slightly for the Panda - it features in the 2wd so it would be a fairly easy swap.

More likely war in Ukraine. Panda production including 4x4 supposed to be extended to 2025. There will not be a new engine as the whole thing would need engineering work that does not go into the pepper grinders. If its gone without warning they just lost another sale as I was going to buy one more. I shall have to make this one last as there is nothing else that lights my fire.

@Marcus Daly posted a few comments back a line from an Italian website that suggested the 4x4 was suspended while they adapt the engine to Euro 6.4. That post was an 'addendum' to an earlier post from 22 April, here https://www-passioneautoitaliane-co...tr_sl=it&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en&_x_tr_pto=sc which says "FIAT has officially announced that the Panda MY'22 with 4x4 drive is temporarily unavailable. So it is a temporary suspension, but FIAT does not state what the reason is."

The translation (again via Google) of the addendum (first seen here its Italian a few posts back, and put on that website on 4th May) is: "For the Panda 4x4, for which I only made a few hypotheses in the absence of official and unofficial news, I repeat hypotheses, wondering why the Panda 0.9 4x4 is temporarily suspended, the news is that the twin 0.9 is suspended due to lack of components. It will be updated to the Euro 6.4 standard and will remain on the Panda 4x4."

So that Italian website was talking through its hat.
… or, Fiat will achieve “Euro 6.4 standards” by using Mild Hybrid on all models? I think they mean Euro 6d - the version of the Euro6 test carried out in ‘real world tests’ (the RDE test), which is rather more accurate than the lab predictions. It was the inability of the TwinAir and MJ to meet these standards that saw their demise.

Just seen this. Looks like confirmation.

I posted that 2 hours ago 😜

In that case the TwinAir used in the 4x4 need to get a hybrid system to be continued.

The hole development of the TwinAir was, to loose 2 cylinders and make space for a electric motor between ICE engine and gearbox.
But Sergio Marchionne decided differently, and it never happen, but the engines where already developed and ready for production.
And as we know now, without the Hybrid plans.

Will they still make the confirmed orders which are due for delivery in September?

Why? I paid my deposit in March and the Cross 4x4 was still on the (UK) configurator. My dealer has confirmed the order and if there was a problem I'm sure they would have been in touch now to give me a refund.

I think you will get the upgraded engine, in what way it will be.
If production is suspended to further notice, it will mean IMHO, that a September delivery, still has to be build, meaning a upgraded build with upgraded engine.
Or a cancelation in due time.

I guess I'll have to wait and see. The dealer did say I had a build slot allocated so fingers crossed...

If there are any changes to the engine then they will have to notify me. I may email them, just for clarification.

I can not imagine that it still will be build with a old engine, while the suspended production is because the engines get upgraded.
When production get started again, they only will produce the cars with the new upgraded engines, IMHO.
All depend on when your build slot is/was, but with a September delivery, i don't think it has been build yet.
