Am new to this site and (hopefully) about to buy a 4x4 if I can decide on a colour and engine! lol
So far I am swinging towards the TA in cancan red with sand/charcoal trim or active grey with grey/pumpkin trim...........
Any thoughts. Problem is my dealer have no cars in either colour and not even a brochure yet.
I would have white, but it a horrible 'van' white, I much prefer the softer white of the 500........... ho hum

Hi triumph7

Welcome to the 'hope to be a 4x4 owners group ;)

I I wasn't trying to say Silver is a bad choice the other day, what you're going for (silver with orange inside) was my original choice and that's what I priced up with the dealer. It was only afterwards I thought I should be more adventurous !

I've been over to the Manchester (Bury) Fiat dealer today as they have an orange Trekking in. I was actually a little disappointed

I don't the the showroom lighting helps as it made the car look a bit mustard colour and the interior looked really a bit too light and almost yellow/mustard.

Looking at it from the otherside of the car which at least had some natural light on it did look better but it's very stressful making such a bold colour choice.

Personally, I still think the 4x4 and Trekking both look great and I'm doing the same as you by doing for the dark windows thinking it'll give it a bit more of a contrast.

Anyway, keep us updated. I may upload the photos but our fellow 4x4 forum members have already provided some brilliant shots (which I'm very grateful).

Phil

Thanks for the welcome and comments. Its definitely going to be cancan red or grey and I expect it will b last second decision at the moment of signing the order! When my other half bought our alfa GT a few years ago we went in to order red and ended up ordering blue! Haha.
Just to put a spanner in the works, there is a 2010 cross with 30k for sale and i must admit I am tempted, unless everyone here tells me I must be mad the new ones are miles better!

“… I am tempted, unless everyone here tells me I must be mad the new ones are miles better!”

Based on just a couple of days experience with the new one (and 45k miles with the Cross), I’d say the new model is good, but not miles better.

PERFORMANCE: The new one is claimed to be a bit faster (not important for an old dodderer like me) and a bit more economical. The engine feels responsive, but I have not put my foot down yet as its total is only 200 miles from new. The computer shows 55.3mpg for the 150 miles I have covered, which is just about the same as I was getting with the Cross on similar journeys.

NOISE: Diesel engine sounds much the same (a bit like a tractor).

SUSPENSION: The ride seems good, and the car is much quieter than the Cross over rough tarmac or cobbled streets, presumably due to revised suspension design. Shock absorbers are now specifically excluded from warranty, so I hope they have fitted better top bushes in the rear ones.

SEATS: Feel comfortable, marginally better than the Cross. No height adjustment on this new one. Head restraints are very hard, and I think they must be set further forward than on the Cross, because they bang the back of my head unless set at maximum height.

INSTRUMENTS: Very poor compared to the Cross. I don’t much like the strip displays for fuel and temperature, but that is a just matter of taste. More seriously, I find the speedo and tacho are difficult to read at a glance in some lighting conditions. The old white needles were far clearer than the new dark red ones.

WIPER CONTROL: Less convenient. Instead of flicking the stalk down, you have to take your hand off the wheel and turn the stalk’s controlring.

HANDBRAKE: I preferred the old design, but can live with the new style.

DOOR MIRRORS: Nice big mirrors, and the electric adjustment is easy to locate (much better than fumbling around for the one in the Cross).

STORAGE: Front door pockets are rather shallow, so no chance of keeping anything large in them. No pocket behind front passenger seat for a road atlas (they probably assume everybody uses a satnav instead). A big space below the gear lever, but I am not sure what it could be used for – the lip is very shallow, so anything large would be liable to roll under the driver’s feet when cornering.

Having seen palio's pics of the orange car I have to say I am really tempted to throw caution to the wind. Love it, now I need to find a dealer with one to look at - trouble us I'm on the iow so I'm a bit limited!

deeyup was a star going getting those photos. I'm happier to just have seen the orange in the flesh (even though it was a little disappointing).

I'll upload what I took yesterday. In yesterday's Telegraph motoring supplement (the only thing I buy it for) they had a small piece about car colour and resale and Black is the best, then White and Silver so I think your car will have a better resale than mine if I'm honest.

My reason for the Orange came down to it's a small car and I think it can take being so bold as a result, also I wouldn't buy any other car (except a Lambo) in Orange so why not go for it I thought :)

These are the better shots. You can probably see the photos from the 'outside windows' side make the colour look better, the one from the inside of the dealers was were I was stood most of the time thinking 'oh, it's a bit mustard coloured'.

I'll also upload a few more that show the interior, on these you can see how the dealer's lighting makes the orange interior very washed out. There's also a really quick video I did, I'll upload it. On that I open the door and close it, when you look at the interior on that you can hopefully see how the colour looks so different with the dealer lighting and I assume the window tints.

Hope that makes some sense.

I love it!

Looks fantastic in orange.
I reckon resale will not be effected with this colour.
There was a cross on eBay late last year in orange which took a while to go, but it did sell in the end. It wasn't cheap either.

There will always be someone who is actively looking for an unusual colour, so will pay for it. It may just take a little longer to sell than more mainstream colours.

Hopefully this is the video.

This was shot from the side with the outside windows (which it looks good from). Hopefully you can see on this how the colour temperature of the lights and windscreen tint makes the interior orange look rather an odd shade, especially as I close the door again and you can still see the interior.

I'm still getting Orange even though :)

I've uploaded it to youtube http://youtu.be/ymQweiboN58

I'm sure you'll be fine with the orange Phil! (y)

Mum finally placed an order for a 4x4 T/A but struggled to decide between green & orange - ended up coin flipping (seriously!) and so it will be green. Both colours really suit the car & I was struggling to say which I preferred too!!

So another 4x4 on the order line - came in at a really good price too, so she's very :)

Palio, what price did you get in the end? I have not got down to nitty gritty with my dealer yet, so would be nice to have some 'real life' pointers.
As a member of the IAM I am also entitled to a deal on their priviladge purchase scheme with Fiat/Alfa - basically its on the PCP with 1k deposit contribution then APR @ 2.5%..........
Seems good figures, but maybe get even better discount for cash?? :)

This was also through the affinity scheme which you should be able to access via the IAM? Anyone else needing to find out how to get this via another route, feel free to drop me a pm.

Dealer was quite upfront that they didn't have more than £500 to play with which matches the best I've seen. We got a fully loaded T/A at just over £13k, and saved nearly £2.4k - well chuffed, this was without needing Fiat finance. (y)

Hi - how did you get 2.4k off if the dealer only had 500 to play with?

I'm intrigued!

Fiat group affinity or privilege purchase scheme.
Dependent on where you work, or if you have a relative who works for Fiat etc, you can get on the scheme.

here you can see the deals offered to West Midlands police force.
There's quite a few different companies and professions that run the scheme.

Yeah the IAM is depsoit contribution + discounted apr rather than % of purchase price. Looks like you got a fab deal there. What I am waiting to hear from my dealer is if they will also give me a £500 discount off the list price before applying the pcp...... hopefully hear from them tomorrow.
Still pondering cancan red, silver.......... or even orange! I would like the pumpkin/grey interior though. If only the car has a decent white as std!

Yes as deeyup said. The scheme can be accessed in various ways - I can point you in the right direction if you don't currently qualify though. Bearing in mind the lack of discounts via the dealers this is currently the best way to go if you don't need a good p/ex from the dealer. (y)
