It's tempting, but I don't work for Her Majesty's constabulary nor can i count any such among my friends. My employer offers no such perks and it if it did, I'm sure the only makes on the list would be brands linked to AvtoVAZ...

If your car is held up like Philboos because of the city brake (if indeed that is why it's held up), then you may have a strong case to cancel anyway.

Mine is now built and ready to ship, I didn't order city brake.

Up in Coventry on Wednesday so going to pop in to Research Garage in Nuneaton on the way back to see if I can take either a 4x4 or Trekking for a short test drive.

Anything to look out for? It looks like the City Brake option is probably a "no" in-view of the long lead-time in getting the car built?

Did anyone manage to haggle any discounts out of Fiat? Looking on the website configurator I get to £14k on the Trekking and £15.5k on the 4x4 - is the 4x4 worth the extra money as most time I'll be driving in-town and some country lanes.

I spoke to the dealer today and they use code to talk to customers. Read on:

I ask for an update.

"Its now a code (or was it status?) 16, sir" - I'll add a smiley :) here as he sounded genuinely pleased (for me?)

I respond: "come again?"

"16 :)"

What sort of lunacy is this - all I want to know is is it built yet, when will it be available for collection etc!

But no, they use codes.

10 is bad (or good, if you want to change specs, i guess)

13 a bit better, but you can still change the colour???

at 16, all the little Robertos are now irrevocably committed to stamping out a blue panda with lots of options - (but no one will actually say when...)

20 also means something - i think its supposed to be more advanced than a 16.

Is it just me and the rest of you already understand this stuff?

Oh and apparently Sicilian Orange is a problem right now - as Mr Fawlty would say "Duck's off, sorry."

Ha - you're so right! Anyone would think they didn't want your business. Just tell them, "Can I have that again in English, please".

Isn't there a tame fiat salesman on the forum who can translate?

deeyup's mate

Ulpian?

apologies if either aren't advisors.

Hi all, does anyone know of a dealer who has a panda in these colours to look at in the south/southeast? Cancan red and active grey, also orange as I am getting a 4x4. Ta very much :)

Well took the 4x4 for a quick test drive.

First impressions are the twin-air engine was noisy - sounded like a lawnmower but that will be as it's only 2-cylinders. Good turn of speed. 1st gear ratio is low meaning changing to 2nd almost straight away - could almost start in 2nd. All round visibility was good. Annoyed steering wheel did not have a reach adjust. Remote window switch not where I would have expected it - on central console instead of on relevant door. Radio & speakers seemed good.

Spoke to the garage and they say they only get 40mpg from it which is not very good really.

Serious fly-in-the-ointment was they then offerred me £1k less than Parker's guide price of £5k for my current car  Do they take me for a fool perhaps?

Another 3 models of car to test drive. I quite liked the 4x4 but the part-ex offer is probably a deal-breaker.

Try the Trekking. Do you REALLY need 4x4? - I think the gear ratios in the Trekking are more fun.

And I know nothing about the delivery codes people, in fact, the Fiat culture still surprises me on nearly every level.

I changed my car a few weeks ago for a second hand one (another Doblo I'm afraid - and I love the 'new' one), and still the touch-up paint hasn't arrived. Or even been ordered. This, and a tiny replacement part. The very nice service receptionist rang me yesterday to book the car in to fit the replacement part and check a door seal, and when I asked if the part was in - supposing it was - he checked and found it still (after three/four weeks, it hadn't been ordered. It's a disconnect between sales and parts, but I don't care, for now, as the bit is not at all important, and they are doing their best... :D

I love them all of course, because they are nice people and they have been very helpful over the years, but I still find that alcohol helps...

Sometimes I feel like the Herbert Lom character in the Pink Panther films...

But hey, the sun is shining and I still can't escape the weird clutch of Fiat. It's the cars...

But the clutches can be a bit weird too.
:D

The garage did not have a Trekking I could test drive which was disappointing - is that so much different to drive then than the 4x4?

Trekking has a 5 speed box.
My old 500 ta was 5 speed. It would go 27mph in 1st, the 4x4 does 20mph.
I would expect the trekking to be very similar to the 500 performance wise, and gearbox is probably the same one.

It is (the trekking) slightly quicker but I wouldn't expect it to feel much different to 4x4 around the bends etc.
I've not driven a trekking btw, so can't say for sure.

I would make sure you drive every iteration of the car you might buy before you commit.

Cars are expensive and no reasonable salesperson will object to you holding out and driving all the versions before commiting, and saying goodbye to a shed load of hard earned money.

I believe that the Trekking has different gear ratios from the 4x4, but check the details in the brochure or on-line. All the mechanical details are accessible if you spend a few minutes searching.
