General  Panda 4x4

Looking forward to Saturday - test drive booked in a 4x4 TA and 4x4 diesel.

Which one first ? Comparison point will be my 87 4x4 !!

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the progress Fiat have made :)

Take the multijet out 1st, and don't forget the Twin Air has 6 forward gears.

We took the twinair 1st and when my wife drove the multijet she tried to put it in reverse at 45mph :D

Thanks for the earlier help, I have now ordered a TA in Tuscany Green. Classy.

I have just got the order form through. The dealer said that bluetooth comes as standard on the 4x4 although the online configurator says it doesn't, which one is true. Bluetooth isn't mentioned on my order form, which worries me.

Likewise the 40/60 seats are mentioned but the seatbelts and headrests aren't, should I bring the dealer up on this?

Hi AtheM,

I just had a look at a basic 4x4 TA on the online configurator, if you just jump straight to "Finished" it is listed in there as being part of the standard kit. The only thing that isn't (according to the configurator) is the Blue&Me TomTom port which is a £50 option. Bit odd but this is FIAT we are talking about after all!:D

As for the 60/40 split, I don't believe it is possible to order it without the 3 seatbelts and headrests. It's a mandatory pair of options.

However I would defo give your dealer a ring to confirm the order is exactly as you wish. There are often many discrepancies between the dealer's system/info, the brochures and the online configurator, so I wouldn't leave it to chance if I were you.

But I do think you are probably in the clear though(y)

Blue&me standard in the UK, and as super uwe says, extra £50 for the port on the dash to put the satnav in if you wanted it.

Do both 4x4 and Trekking TA have low ratio 1st gear or just the 4x4?

Hi there.

If you look at the Italian 2013 panda brochure I uploaded (I've just looked for you) you'll see the Trekking with the 0.9cc twinair engine only has a 5speed box so it's only the 4x4 which has the low ratio 1st (hence 6 speed in the spec).

Just test drove the TA new 2012 Panda in Glasgow this pm, after having owned the Mk 3 (?where is/was the 2??) petrol 1.2 and MJ1.3.

The TA is a whole different league.. quite a blast right out of the box, although no snow to test on today, can see that all the "could do better" bits have been sorted. Only criticism is the driver's seat as in the form today it lacked the back front tilt that was v good on the Mk3.... height adjustment lacking on the demo car but could be specc'd. Love the engine note......sounds like the original CC 500 or a 2CV on speed!. Will have to get one!! Just need to get rationalise the current cars......

Managed a drive in the Trekking TA and diesel - took the old 4x4 to the dealer for comparison.
The new cars are a league ahead of the 141A in terms of comfort and refinement as expected, also vastly bigger.

Sum up of the test runs - TA is an absolute hoot to drive, sounds great, pulls well and goes like a rocket when pressed. very characterful car with a distinctive and unique soundtrack similar to that of the Nuova 500.
Diesel - less refined, not quite as engaging but very capable if less fun than the TA. Probably not the enthusiast's choice but good none the less. Price premium for diesel gives a payback time of at least 50k miles too.

When I make my move, funds permitting, it will be a TA 4x4.

If that is the mk 2, which was the mk 1? Bit confused as my sister had the original 4x4 back in the late 80's and there seemed to be no change until the model came out circa 2005?

The Mk1 Panda from 1980-1986 had the corrugated sides, opening quarterlights, leaf spring suspension, etc. The Mk2 Panda was 1986-1994 (UK) with smooth sides, no opening quarterlights, new FIRE engines, and "omega" rear suspension (except for the 4x4). Dash, seats, tailgates, etc, were all revised for the Mk2 so it was a major change. Mk1 & Mk2 Panda's are in the https://www.fiatforum.com/panda-classic/ section. Have a look in there - plenty of friendly loonies get in there! (y)
