Panda Panda 100HP project (cooperman style!)

Introduction

Right thought I would start a thread as there are a few mods happening to my panda and wanted somewhere to have them all in one place! I have owned my 100HP since 2010 and love it! She gets serviced at fiat evry year and had belts and water pump replaced last year. I wanted to start modding her but not go OTT as been there and done it before! Hopefully you guys like it!
So this is what I have done:

Day one cleaned!

Really happy with the way the car is coming on! The rear end is looking nice and fat, will be looking at getting a silver rear fog light bulb to balance up the lights and looking at spacers the same as Demi has to fill the arches a bit more. All 4 tyres will be getting replaced also for Toyo T1R's as got some cheap front tyres put at the mo and had enough of them!! Lesson learnt!
Of curiosity, what kind of problems could one see with such a kit?

None if used 'normaly' ... ;)
Quickshift kits came from race and rally days originally.. they allow a much faster gear change and less time with hand off the wheel !!:eek: - most times they would be used with a racing change. In that respect, no worries on the right car with the right box.. I had a nice quickshift kit on a HS2.3 Shoveit (Chevette) with a Getrag box - it was bloody superb...
Now, on the panda, imho, the box is not a unit that like a rapid racing type change. The synchromesh seems a tad weak . it is easily beaten - meaning one can change too quickly and feel a slight notchy resistance .. this is quite acceptable.. however, if you force it, you will create premature wear in the synchro assemby, also possibly selector assembly - I am talking of hammering the box though as in rapid changing..
If used to just have a nicer feel to the gear change, Its a good mod - It would be better with the lateral adjusted as well - a small amount ...
It would be easy to pick up a gearchange unit at a breakers (from any panda - all the same - well, slightly better after 2007) and just cut, extend, and weld..
Would be interesting..

Theother issue is the bottom of the lever - the ball - runs in a nylon cup assembly that locates in the plastic change lever frame, This does wear and causes a sloppy stick.. any wear here and I would not fit the kit - if the lever is tight now (not sloppy) then ok - lift the gaitor and gently move the lever - if the lever moves in the LARGE ball socket and the cable ball joints remain still, then the nylon unit is buggered.
I think it is probably a great mod, I would definitely look at lateral and diy as it is simple stuff and parts are readily available to play with (ie a complete lever assembly and keep yer old one).. but not to be confused with a high performance box.. driven normally, it should be a pleasure - hammered, it will probably hammer the box selectors and synchros. also the large (already poor) nylon cup assembly. just MHO of course .. correction to above - afaik, it is the same base unit for thegearchange - however the reverse detent mechanism is different due to the 6 speed box !!..
The same lower lever part, is used though - the bit that you would modify if you did a diy.. !

As I said not worried it's a great little mod for the money! I hardly drive the panda hard and when it does it's always warned up before hard.
Anyway before my thread becomes a full explanation as to all faults with the gearbox got a few more bits planned before auto italia and a good bit of detail cleaning is needed mainly engine bay!

I really like it! But it must take loads of stickers! But then again, small stickers should be easier to work with than a large piece of foil.

Also while i had the bonnet open the air box bolts where looking worst for wear so gave them a coat of paint also! Took my BMC air panel out to see how its holding up, 20,000miles on it and still looks like new!

So a good morning!! :D[/QUOTE]
Reminds me of a mate painting some bolts on his car a long time ago and when he needed to change the air filter they were stuck in the plastic. It seems he partially undid them, painted them then screwed them back in. Did I mention he painted the threads as well?

You clearly haven't learnt anything from your hiatus ... If you've got nothing to say that is of use, please refrain from using your keyboard! We are bored of your "inputs" on this site.

Ah banned for good, it seems the time out I gave him wasn't enough.

It seems so. I just don't get it. Why would you come to a forum where the vast majority of people act in a certain way and then choose to act in a way which annoys a lot of people, then when you get a temporary ban, you return and act as if nothing has happened.

It just doesn't make sense does it?

If you search the internet you'll find his name pops up on a few forums, several of which are marine/yachting and he has caused problems on every single one, I don't believe he's in Portugal/owns a yacht or even owns a Fiat of any kind..most of what he said is easily made up and technical input easily copied and pasted from elsewhere on the forum and internet in general.

Something tells me he is a Brit in Portugal with a yacht and a Panda, like you said though, most of what he said is easily found on forums and is not exactly difficult to find elsewhere though......

For all Cap's shortfalls on the forum, especially over the last few days, I can guarantee you he is living in Portugal, does own a yacht and a Panda.

It's a shame he didn't make the most of his second chance though, he had some useful advice and helpful ideas sometimes.
