well...what an adventure into the world of induction kits

all the options ive tried and im back to the original setup with a cleaned out airbox and a new paper filter. Much more responsive and overall better MPG and less noise also (y)

all the custom options and the BMC were no good for my everyday driving style and road types.

I had a Pipercross induction setup and it was nice. It was similar to the LAD Motorsport setup. If I was doing it again the GSR one (if you can get one) would be my preference. Despite not being able to re-map you can do a ECU reset by disconnecting the battery. Didn't find any gain in BHP but there was a torque improvement and it appeared that they was a slight increase in fuel consumption which I can't explain.
The CDA BMC setup pictured looks the business but from speaking with a guy who had fitted this he found that the filter needed constant cleaning. The open cone on the Pipercross doesn't suffer the same issues. Since the cone is foam it's not as noisey as cotton gauze. Cost is around £100. A clean paper filter could well be the best option !
More performance options are explored here.

i agree!

from other users of BMC on here..they cant fault them which is great. its all about personal preferences

from the links you showed me, im going for a full set of top quality spark plugs with the next service, 0w40 mobil F1 oil (my personal fave!) and a brand spanking paper filter. I also notice sealing up the joints in the air pipes is a good idea also. stop that air escaping and hot air getting in also!

Looking into a full raggazon exhaust system (manifold and cat-back system, dont like messing with the CAT!) after xmas

Not sure you can have air escaping AND hot air getting in - must be one or the other. As the induction system runs continually at less than atmospheric pressure, the (minutely slight) risk is that air will enter at any leak.

M1 don't sell an oil to suit the 1.4 petrol. There is an 0w40 ESP M1 but I haven't seen it for sale in the 'shops'. Anyway it's the wrong viscosity - it should be 5w40 and it needs to be ACEA C3 as specified in the manual. Seperate thread on Tech talk section.
Spark plugs - none of the iridium ones will give any increase in BHP but the Densos supposedly give better MPG and the NGK Iridiums last longer. With the Densos you have the 'cheap' IX and the tough version called the VX last as long as the NGK Iridiums but cost a lot. If I was buying I'd probably opt for the IXU22.
You can pick up a renewable K&N air filter for around £30 and it might give a little increase of 1-2bhp. It will also give a small rasp. It would be preferable to a foam based one e.g. ITG. Cotton gauze can be cleaned and then lightly oiled in around 30 minutes. Paper & foam filter the best with the ITG having the 'edge' over paper. On a 1.4 16V I would be divided between a K&N replacement filter or a Pipercross CAI. I'd want to change the paper.

that's the oil i have used since i got the car in April. i noticed an improvement in overall response and mpg and it came highly recommended.

put my number plate into the oil finder on various websites and they mostly say 0W40

got the NGK spark plugs in at the moment...nothing to report really, but the old spark plugs were not really worn or anything so...we shall see!

i can get a lifetime of paper filters for less than 30 quid and afford to change them every 6-8 months so im leaving that as it is. Having to mess around cleaning and oiling up the Piper-cross to manufacturers guidelines doesn't seem worth it

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but can you buy the red silicone hose used on the bmc setup from anywhere?

I have been looking for one of these also for another little mod I was looking at doing but they don't seem to be available on there own! As the original pipe reduces into the elbow on the throttle body end no silicone company does any size near the 2 different sizes needed. But I do have a plan just not got round to doing as of yet!

Doh! well back to the drawing board!
