The Panda 100hp was subject to an article by Hagerty in 2024 about being a future classic, and the najority of motor magazines praised its essence of being a brisk micro hatchback with old school NA engine, 6 speeds, low weight, fixed lowered suspension, and 5 door practicality.

My example was bought new in 2010 and covered about 7k miles from new and 3 years ago I was trying to get an agreed value insurance cover since market value for the cars used glass guide and "assumes" mileage per year according to the insurers I spoke to and said cars in a writeoff would get 2.5k sterling give or take which was quite different to the between £7-£8k prices being asked I remember at the time on autotrader for cars on 2nd or 3rd owner but with purported "low" mileage of 20000-3000 miles by dealers.

I did manage to secure an agreed value cover with Hagerty for my car at the correct value 3 years ago and it also fed into a small discount on the other car I maintain/keep which is a classic Alfa but since then other classic car insurers are quite dismissive of the Panda 100hp as a classic car and I was wondering about other members experience with insurance and if there was a Panda 100hp expert at the forum since it seems impossible to contact the facebook clubs

Ive had major arguments re this, all to no avail. My 4x4 is still like new and it would be very hard to get another in its current condition. Insurers are just jobsworths and not interested in a service at all. My car is insured as a 90hp because of Fiats 90hp TA scandal. I hhave an open case with various insurance bodies to get it correctly described on the insurance database. Basically they are to lazy and too stupid to care or understand and I have told them if its written off I will insist on a 90hp replacement and not accept anything less.

My Panda 100 was immaculate and I tried to get agreed value but no insurer is interested.

Car insurance is an appalling con all round.

I am sorry you have had also a dissapointing experience with other insurers. I myself tried to contact the glass guide admin but like you say they are not interested. Your 4x4 Panda embarassed a Land Rover in all terrain manoeuvrability on a TV programme, not sure if it was Topgear, but if prices of series 1 Panda 4x4s are anything to go by which are just not as well built as the type 169 Pandas despite their offroad capability you car will be a future classic and should be praised for it now being I would guess like my Panda 100hp about 25 years old.

Regarding the Panda 100hp like I said I have an agreed value through Hagerty because it is low mileage, one owner from new, and because it meets their criteria as not being my principal vehicle for road use, and of being parked privately in a secure place behind another vehicle. The premium is steep and the maximum limit is 5000 miles on all Hagerty agreed value policies for a year, however it gives peace of mind that my car has an agreed value.

Hi.
Please feel free to give us a try for agreed value insurance if you wish.
I had a 100HP for 7 years. Absolutely loved it!

Dan.

My 100hp is valued at £530 by the current insurer.
It would be the same if it was an immaculate low mileage car with full service history.
It isn't any of those - paint (red) is atrocious, interior is "lived in", its got 140k miles, and it has no service history from previous owners. It is original and unmodified but basically unsellable as anything other than and old banger.

I've also got another one in bits, 40k miles, immaculate (black) paint, non-rusty sills and records covering work down to the level of wiper blade replacement.
I do keep adding parts to the pile whenever I find something that's in better condition than what is already there (things like an unmarked steering wheel, as-new gear knob, etc) because there's no point putting them on the red one.
If I don't have to evict from its storage it for any reason, it will probably get reassembled at some point in the next few years and should make a nice example.
Might even be worth a few quid if they do start going up in value. But not holding my breath....

Three years ago I saw on auto trader two cars on sale by dealers with, one had 20k and one had 30k miles and both were priced between 7k and 8k and those seem realisable values because a specialist in the UK said one sold for about that money last year. On the continent they are about the same if not slightly more, for low mileage properly kept vehicles. The point is that there is a difference between a car with several owners with over 150000miles on the clock and limited service history and mint examples and the few that are mint are absolutely "not" being given consideration by insurers.

The problem is that very cheap cars in general attract owners that tend to not use fiat or bosch parts and which do not maintain the car well either.

This has cropped up on another forum I’m on for a “proper classic”. That owners club offers a valuation service which you can use to support an agreed valuation policy for a nominal fee. Is there anyone credible who can do this for the Panda 100? Might help encourage an insurer to offer the policy.

Cheers,
Chris

100hp certainly has plenty of fans who would agree it's probably a future classic (me included).

But it's currently in its 'low' period all cars (and all cultural artifacts) go through.

Between 10-20 years they don't have nostalgia value, aren't old or unusual enough to be interesting, to most people they're just old.

Once it reaches 25-30 years old 100hp could potentially be considered an appreciating classic.

But it's a bit hard to predict what the old car market will be like in 2035-2040, anything above 100g/km CO2 might get taxed off the roads, who knows?

The 100HP has been out of production since 2010, so 15 years and is already a modern classic. Hagerty wrote an article on the car in 2024 stating this.
My agreed value with them is excellent and as stated previously cars cars have sold in recent years with 20000 miles on the clock and two owners for £7+.
High mileage multi owner cars used daily or modded cars or cars with patchy service history using poor quality replacement parts are completely different in value but are the majority of ones owned but the pool of cars is coming down also if one checks on how many left.
On the European continent the cars are also sought after because not so many were built and purchased.

Already tried Adrian Flux yesterday and was told they would not give an agreed value for a Panda 100hp
Ah thats the people who say they offer a saving and then quote 4 or more times the premium I pay else where. I wouldnt ever givevthem the time of day. 6 yrars or more from memory I am still paying less than half what they quoted back then. The words extremely poor value come to.mind evety time I hear of them!

I had the exact same experience with them a few years ago....avoid.

Oh, I'm not at all disagreeing with you about the 100hp's virtues :)

And I'm not one who thinks only monetary value or age define whether a design is a classic (I happen to think the 169 is a classic design, even the scruffiest 1.1).

I just don't know if the 100hp has gained mainstream acceptance as a 'classic car' yet. It's appreciated by a relatively small number of enthusiasts.

If your insurer has agreed a higher value in view of your car's condition then that's good news we're moving in the right direction:)

But I wouldn't expect most insurers to extend classic coverage benefits to the 100hp whilst its average market value is low in its difficult teenage years.

I'd imagine it'll get there soon though:)

Hi.
I'm surprised we couldn't help. We can offer an agreed valuation option on pretty much any car as long as it's over 12 months old regardless if it a classic car or not.
If you wanted to PM me your details I'd be happy to look into this,
Regards,
Dan.
