Panda (Classic) Pale green Classic Panda 4x4 (1986).

Introduction

Just acquired this lovely 4x4. :)

Traded in by Gavin (Palio) against the project Panda I'm currently building for him. Gavin bought it back in February from Dave (Aquamarine) but has not used it since. Fortunately for me Gavin stored it at a friends house many miles from his own so didn't form an attachment to it.

Dave had done quite a bit of work to it before selling it on to Gavin, and as a result it's in lovely condition ( ignoring paintwork issues here :p ), even has new doors. Dave, perhaps you could fill in more details for us?

This is my only pic so far but will add more asap........

I really like the pale green colour so will be keeping this original but improve the finish in places. This will be an easy task as Dave has done a great job removing what little rust was there. As far as I can tell the doors and back of the inner sills were the only rusty areas on an otherwise solid and straight Panda. This is impressive given it's an early Mk2 (1986).

Mileage is a very low 58,000, this is reflected in the condition of the interior and mechanics. I haven't driven it yet but Gavin and Barbara have and they assure me it is a real pleasure, with a strong engine and a tight and quiet gearbox. :)

With the plans for Barbara's own Panda recently changing I find myself with some nice upgrades looking for a home. The beige Alfa interior would look stunning with the green paintwork so I'm very tempted to fit it. Then there's wheels. I have half a dozen options here, including leaving the current ones on, so think I will just have to try them all and see what looks best. Other than that the rest will stay as it is.

It looks like we'll be bringing it to the Thoresby meet rather than put Barbara's 4x4 back together with it's original parts only to take it all apart again when we get back.

Now this is Barbara's runaround instead of the blue one she's missed out on the Alfa seats she was looking forward to. They allow her to sit higher, which she prefers.

Well I had the seats I was originally going to fit to the blue one knocking around, so....... Oslo has had a 60 minute makeover........

The light wasn't good in the workshop so I'll try and get some better pics tomorrow.

It was only made such a quick job because I've borrowed the seat subframes from the blue 4x4. Barbara doesn't know I've done this so it will be a nice surprise for her in the morning. :D.

Don't worry all you traditionalists, two hours work would have the original seats and wheels back on him if needs be. :p

Well when Barbara opened the door to Oslo this morning her first thought was, " Ooh, looks like Vernon's given the interior a clean". It wasn't until she sat in and realised that there was less space between the seats to let the handbrake off that she finally noticed what had been done. Testament to how well they blend in I'd say.

Must admit, i had to double take at the pictures. I saw a slight difference in colour but thought it was just cus you had cleaned em :p

I took Oslo in to have his front wheel alignment checked today, I wanted to see what the camber actually is now that I've fitted the modded ball joint carriers, plus it just didn't feel right.
The toe in was miles out! so they adjusted this, then the camber was reading 0.1' negative on each side. This was fine by me, pretty much dead upright.

On the way back to the workshop it felt like a different car . Before, the steering was overly light and it was a little skittish over bumps. I also found it wasn't as sure footed in the snow as the Sisley. Now though it feels much more planted and secure, wish I'd done it sooner. :)

Had to fit a new clutch cable to Oslo yesterday :(. Fortunately it broke just as Barbara was approaching the drive so she was able to coast straight into her normal parking space.
The cable went on the Sisley just before Christmas, that was on the drive too! Phew!

You're wrong:

Vern uses orange baler twine to hold up his trousers

and

Blue baler twine to fix clutches,

but you don't want to know what he uses the green garden string for....:p

Keep that up & you may find out what he does with green string sooner than you think! Still, a bit of entertainment for us at Panda Camp

Barbara went into town on Thursday and when she came back to Oslo there was glass all over the ground at the back of him. :( There were also bits of glass embedded in the back bumper with light scratches, and the bumper was about 1/2" further in on one side.
There was also a note left on the windscreen, not by the culprit but by an anonimous witness that saw an old lady in a VW Polo go into the back of him and drive off, with a smashed headlamp and a dented bumper of her own I'd say. She had left blue paint on the end of Oslo's exhaust so the evidence was mounting :D.

On inspection all Oslo needs is to have one bumper bracket straightened out as it had acted as a crumple zone, so not really worth persuing any further, but we have informed the police just in case.

Poor Oslo :cry::p

Gutted for you.....that's a real honest older person, don't get me started on the double standards of older so called middle class, upright member of the public Daliy Mail reader....

You got middle class Daily Mail reader from the fact they drove a Polo

Might read the Express instead. :p

Probably totally oblivious hepped up on mogadon and horlicks

Annoying, for you though Vernon :(
