@varesecrazy

It was in Marquis motorhomes livery ivory paint with maroon decals, and had the dreaded maroon velvet doormat. The side decals have both changed to a lovely shade of purple , which I actually rather like as its unusual, but the rear decals are still maroon. I've seen a couple of these 630g advertised and they have the same colour change so must have been the decals as opposed to the scottish weather.

Its strange as apart from a few small spots (as befitting its age) its just the passenger door thats peeling, the driver side is still in acceptable condition. We do have thermal cover for the windows but I think it would be the same on the driver door if that was the culprit. OH did have a strange experience, where he got to his destination and found the front and side covered in an oily substance, which he washed off immediately. He'd not been aware of any vehicle with smokey exhaust or anything that would explain it, but wondering if whatever it was did some damage.

Its not worth getting it professionally done given its age. OH will probably give it a go, though you are limited to the type of paint that can be used without a dedicated spray booth.

It's a Rapido van, I was told by the company I bought it new that warranty only covers when metal/rust showing five years but paint is only cover by 2yr warranty.

I think in the absence of other replies I would take it back to the company you bought it from and have a chat in person. It does seem to be a known issue, a good motorhome dealership (mindful of its reputation) should at least try and assist by contacting Rapido. Paint should not bubble up like that, its not normal wear.

Seval vans have suffered paint flaking off mainly from above the windscreen and around doors and can look like a patchwork quilt if not attended to , the cause seems to be the primer is very hard and the top layers of paint cannot bond to it causing it to become flaky and come off .
All my vans have had the problem , but it usually happens after warrant ...!!!!!

My ducato - a Globecar motorhome was first registered in September 2019. Last August I made a Fiat dealer aware of flaking paint around the windscreen, on the roof and the wings. Was sent to approved paintshop- took them two and a half months to raise a quote. Dealer then wasted time. Then told paintshop no longer approved! Fiat customer services based in Italy delayed things further, then as not getting anywhere went to another dealer and another approved workshop. Took them 2-3 months to raise a quote! I was chasing things throughout then eventually customer services told me the the vehicle is out of the 3 year warranty!! I told them that this wasn’t so and still nothing happening. Seems like Fiat are trying to deliberately string me along and evade their warranty obligations..

Seems to be a universal problem with vans from that factory, so Fiat will never pay out.
As an ex-car sprayer, my theory is that they've saved time by not sanding the primer before the top coat, probably relying on an adhesion promoter (adhesive) instead, which breaks down shortly after the warranty expires.

L heard the problems started when they switched to a water based paint (for environmental reasons)
But if its only the top coat flaking off the roof does it matter?
Nobody sees it, and the steel is galvanised underneath
You could roller paint it or even brush paint it up there as nobody would see the brush marks

VW had these issues with 'eco paint' around 1998..
