Technical Overheating Issues

Hi again all some advice please.
My punto 1200 8valve is being a pain having read some of the advice on here i want to ask more please.
It is overheating and heater aint working so i have bled it many times and when i do i get steam from the heater bleed?? It does the usual throwing the water out the exspantion tank when running. I am not sure where the thermopstat is but assumed it was on the top hose which goes to the radiator. This hose feels empty when the exspation tankl is throwing water out.
Do you think it is the thermostat. ?? Having had nothing but problems with thjis car i think iot is cursed ha ha . any advice is appreciated

Thermostat is in an aluminium housing on side of the engine, just below the coil pack. New stats come with the housing.

Compression test advised. You may well have killed the head gasket.

Then, if it indicates a blown head gasket, find the cause. It'll either be a faulty thermostat (beware of unbranded ones), a knackered water pump, or a water leak (radiator, water rail or water rail O ring are prime candidates).

In future, please start your own thread -- it's easier to spot and you'll get more replies.

Thanks fingers99 sorry matey just joined the site so very new here and shall take on board what you say. yeah kinda hoping i havent or rather my son hasnt killed the head gasket ?? We shall see. thanks again appreciated .

the punto 8v is a strong engine, it can take some stick, as long as its looked after
ie regular servicing, changing parts as the service manual or situation arrises

The HG is do-able in a day, if it wasn't for the fact you have to wait for the head skimmers to skim your head for you
