Hi guys!
Is it possible to set up a wireless broadband router for use on NTL? On the router itself, the 'Internet' port is a normal modem port (like a small RJ45 jack) but with NTL, it is a RJ45 cable (ethernet) that goes directly from the PC NIC into the wall socket (RJ45 on both ends)
I think what I need is a RJ45 to (i think) RJ11 (same shape but smaller than RJ45) cable. Am I right in assuming this and if so, where would I get one from?
Many thanks in advance guys!!

Yes it is possible, i have one at uni. Best place for cables is ebay-you can get anything on there! Dont foget you need a DSL router for cable broadband, NOT ADSL. I got mine from eBuyer, their value model for about £22.

Hi, first one will not work, second one will. Netgear are rumoured to be very good, but thats quite a bit for a router. So long as it is .11g (54mbps) it will be fine for the forseeable future. I have this one http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=52629, along with a 54mbps network card from the same company-cant remember the name and it works fine. I am about 15feet upstairs above the router and get constant 48/54mbps connection speed.

Thats pretty damn good!! Rite, looks like I need a different router then! Do u think Dabs will accept a return on the grounds that its the wrong one, especially if I'm gonna order the right one?
Thanx 4 the advice Ben!

Unsure, having never dealt with Dabs before, it doesnt hurt to try. When you do get setup make sure you check for driver updates and that you protect yourself. Use a good firewall (i use Kerio) and that you enable 128bit incription and even limited MAC address authentification. All this means that only you and those who you want to use the connection can. Otherwise you will find next door (and possibly the rest of your street) using your connection/monthly allowance! ;) Be warned!
With a bit of googling you can find out all you need to know about the above security features...

Thanks Ben, the router is actually for a mate of mine, I use the Netgear DG834 cos Im on BT - 2.2MBps unlimited allowance!!
On my Netgear, I have a built in firewall, although I'm not yet certain as to just how good this is - havent really played with it fully!! I've set up the MAC authentification but not the encryption - it seems to 'lock' all network / internet access when I enable it, even when I set the NICs up with the WEP key thing!
Anyhoo, thanks for all the info / advice! If u have messenger, feel free to add me for a chat!! My addy is

Always good to chat to fellow Fiat owners!! Thanks again!

I'm on NTL and have a Linksys router and can go anywhere in the house and get a great signal strength.
At the minute i'm in the attic bedroom (Brother is up and the kids are in my bed)
And i'm about 40 feet above the router now (in a straight line and through 2 floors)
