OT - Tsunami Videos (not distrurbing - they show the initial smaller waves)

one of my friends originally came from sri lanka, he hasn't been home for 15 years, he went this christmas for 3 weeks, what a time to go!

Heard from him the other day, he and his family are ok, so waiting for him to get back before i can find out what it was like :(

ok this is the last one i've got - the view from a hotel at ground level - a bit more panic and shouting in this one, but it's not disturbing, but if you're not sure you want to see the wave etc then don't watch: http://www.putfile.com/media.php?n=tsunamiphuket

i'm just posting these because i think it's interesting to see just how big the smaller waves were and to get an idea of what it was like!

thank god he and his family are ok - he is very lucky!

i still can't believe it's happened and seeing the consequences, and what might happen what with disease etc - very frightening! :(

theres always some jackass trying to film the whole situation instead of helping those others that got swept away or even getting out of there simself, but no instead he would rather film his mate in a very very tigh and small pair of speedos

Dont be too harsh, when something like this happens you have no immediate idea of what is going on, or the consequences. When he was filming this, it was a big wave, nothing more and he had his camera on so he recorded it, he didnt know how it would unfold.
You could say the same thing about all news coverage, amatue video footage and even still pictures - you just never know. What does **** me off though is the news that Kelly Holmes and Matthew Pinsett have been honoured by the Queen (OK by her advisers). FFS, the old girl three doors down from me lost her husband of 45 years just before Christmas, yet she still had time and thought to donate £15 to the disaster fund - its people that that who deserve awards, not pumped up ****ing two bit athletes who have every possible thing laid on for them to run round in circles.

i agree - i just think that no matter what happened afterwards or why he was filming etc... he blantantly saw those two people in trouble yet still continued to film.

a friend of my dads took this in Sri lanka.
Don't know how he survived.

I remember reading the memroires of a war correspondant, and he actullay took a film of his best friend being shot (think it was in vietnam) and he said that you end up distancing yourself when you are behind a camera, everything becomes very unreal almost like watching a film. Even though the last one showed people being frightened, it still doesnt look as awesome as what it most have been like
