right, last week something went wrong with the engine on the punto.
When i was driving, the car lost power all of a sudden, but i could still drive home, only just making it up any small hills, the engine temp gauge never showed above halfway.
When i got home, there was alot of steam and water coming from the engine, so i took it to the garage, who said the head gasket must have gone, and the pressure test revelead no compression to cylinders 1 and 2, which apparently is unusual because when the HG goes it usually leaves a little bit of compression, so he suspected that the cambelt may have gotten slack resulting in my valves being bent.
After looking at the cambelt, and discovering it was ok, he has told me that the valves are ok and its just the HG.
When i start the car, the engine shakes like mad and there is alot of rattling and white smoke.
Obv the head gasket has gone, but is there any other damage that sounds like it could have happened as if its only the HG then il fix it, anything more and i wont.
Lastly hes quoted me 400 for the HG doing, which i think is v expensive, i would expect to pay in the region of £200, is this correct??
