what does it mean when you select an area and say try and adjust the contrast and it says you cant becuase the selected area is empty?

It means what it says basically, have you got the right layer selected??

what it is , ive got a pic of a car im doing and ive used the magnetic marker to go round the windo ,i av the gone into image,then adjustment and then it tells me the area is empty even though there is only 1 layer, i ant got round to using multiple layers yet lol

When you say you have one layer do you mean you have the backround layer and then one layer on top or just the back round?

As the original image will be the backround layer?

i opened a pic of a car i had and so far i have lowered it and made the wheels bigger , now i just took a look and there is a background and then layer1 which is of the body of the car when i lowered it lol do i go back to the background everytime i want to change something?

That would depend on what you wanted to change. If the car body is on layer one you have to select that layer to modify it.

The rest of the image will be on the background layer so select that to modify it.

Incase you didn't know, each time you copy and paste the pasted image will alwyas be place in a new layer above the one you currently have selected.
