Dear Sirs,

I am writing to inform you that on this occasion your 'best price' quote was unable to meet my expectations and thus I have taken my business elsewhere for the forthcoming year on this policy.

This is due to a number of reasons. Normally I wouldn't go to the efforts to make you aware of the reasons, but as they have realistically annoyed me I feel compelled to state them.

1. The initial quotation of £456.19 was even at first glance high. Having had done a quick search on comparison websites ie. Comparethemarket, gocompare, etc. this initial quotation was evident to be highly unrealistic and insulting. It's not like I'm a new customer, so a level of continuity of good pricing and loyalty would have gone a long way.
2. Having had my 'cage' effectively rattled, I spoke to someone who at first seemed a little 'put out' that I was unhappy with my quote. After our discussion with regards to the pricing it was lowered to £337? (can't remember exact value) which as an initial quotation would have been better. My issue with this is I left the conversation feeling like I had been an irritant.
3. When a bank (Santander - which lets face it, is a bank and has nothing as such to do with vehicles) comes in with a cheaper price than your initial quotation, this to me raises some serious concerns as to your approach on renewals.

I have since made enquiries elsewhere and have had your price beaten by some margin. On principle and to make a point to yourselves (albeit a small one), I have accepted this quote.

Currently I have my 2nd car insured through yourselves and I have no issues here but naturally when the policy on it arises for renewal, I shall have to factor my recent experiences into whether I continue any business with yourselves. This to me is a shame as I consider myself loyal and would rather maintain existing business relationships, rather than seek new ones.

Yours sincerely,
blah.

Won't make one iota to anything but you know when you can't just sit back and take it? Well that was me.

To name and shame, the email was sent to Adrian Flux whilst the 'winning' broker was Chris Knott.

With a little more thought I might have actually got my grammar a little bit better, but I think it ultimately gets my point of view over :)

Nice one Insy, i was the same when it came to insure "No Frills" Adrian flux who i have been with since 2001! exact same thing, first quite with them was £400, WTF, the rat1 was with them and it cost me £198 with mods!, i then was told that the best they could do was £239, alot better but still the saleman made me feel like i was the problem, so i insured with 1st choice for £238 full comp protected no claims with my wife on it too!

They can shove it! i feel they have lost what they once had!

Rant over 2! lol

The part where you mention not being a new customer is where you explain (to me, anyway) why you got a high price for renewal.

I have been with the same insurance company for in excess of 20 years, but a few years ago I decided to try a couple of comparison sites. There were plenty of cheaper quotes, but I wanted to stay where I was (see below), so I rang them and was 'advised' to get a quote as a new customer, not just renew my policy.

Result? nearly £100 cheaper!!!
Still not the cheapest, but they are totaly hassle-free if you need to claim, and are an 'ethical' company.

My insurance increased by £60 last June,(Churchill)I asked why it had gone up so much, It appears they now offer "FREE" breakdown cover. When i said i had my own breakdown cover that i had just renewed and could i have a quote without the breakdown. "No, you have to have the FREE breakdown cover. After 5 years i got another company that offered a choice if you want their breakdown cover or not. pays to shop around.

Well I've said it a few times, AF have lost my custom for life after they robbed me for 14 days insurance. I told the bloke I was selling the car so might need to cancel or change the car - he said there wouldn't be any charge, just pay for the days you have insurance.... WRONG!!! nearly £250 for 14 days insurance and the whole year was only about £400.

CK now have 3 cars and will have another 2 next month with them.... I just can't stand sales people out for a quick buck & companies that feel they don't need a customer.

Maybe I am small fry, after all - only have 5 cars averaging £600 each (company pool car is rather expensive - 12 points we total all together!) but thats £3000 per year cos of me!

rant over also :)

I haven't yet insured a car with Adrian Flux, and don't think I ever will be. When I came to insure my car for '09, they 2nd cheapers at about £700. When I came to renew in Feb of this year, I approached them again for a quote, the only differnce being I have 3 points for speeding and they wanted nearly £1200 for the year! How can the robbing b@$t@rds justify that increase for 3 points?

Whenever your insurance is up for renewal you should always shop around. Whatever the most expensive is dont take it personally there are lots of criteria that the insurance companies look at and they change all the time so it might just be that they've had a few claims from people with your car/from your area/your age/your sex etc.
Have a read through this when you get your renewal every year:
