Hello!

I have a Twinair Plus, and just recently installed the PIAA DRL's and really impressed with the difference. This has inspired me to change the main and full beam bulbs as well.

However I don't want these to look white compared to the slightly blue tint of the PIAA's. Has anyone purchased and tried the Cool Blue Intense Osram's?

When I originally looked at upgrading the bulbs I considered the Night breaker - understand that the newer one lasts longer. Unsure if they woud get past the NCT/MOT.

The cool blue intense is really for wannabe Xenon - personally I would prefer to leave the lights standard or if I needed more light I would opt for the Night breaker. I find it hard to believe that the 'blue ones' give an extra 20% more light - but at least they're listed as legal.

If you decide to go ahead I would interested to see how they look.

I think I may take a look and see if I can find the life of the bulb first. If it seems to be okay I may purchase and see if they look okay.

Will keep you updated.

I agree that the nightbreakers plus (from reviews) are far better than the standard regarding life span.

However if you read my original post, I am looking for a bulb that has a slight blue tint with a brighter light. Much similar to the improvement the PIAA DRL's have made.

I was under the impression that Osram Nightbreakers were no longer legal and that if you were stopped by the police with them switched on you could be asked to change them or face a fine.
Below is some correspondence from Osram stating that they meet regulations and was taken from here.
So I'm still confused.:confused:

I can confirm that our Night breaker bulbs are ECE approved. The fully meet the necessary regulations and are marked so on the cap ring (R37).
They are compatible with standard bulbs and are fully road legal.

The service centre may be confusing these bulbs with high wattage ‘off road’ bulbs, which are definitely illegal on European roads.

i just read the data sheet on the nightbreaker plus.
It says lifespan either 150 hours, or 300 hours. That's the H1 fitting model 64150NBP

I'd soon wear those out during winter months, on say 3 hours a day, that would be 50 days or 100 days. Rubbish (n)


H7 fitting are 150 and 250 hours. Rubbish again

autobulbsdirect.co.uk state that the Osram Nightbreakers Plus, have a life of 500-800 hours.

They also state that the Cool Blue Intense bulbs have a life of 300-400 hours.

64150NBP is not the standard bulb that fits the H7.
It is the 64193NBP that you should be looking at which is showing a range of 250/400 hours or 500/900 hours.

From this then the Cool Blue Intense has the same life span as the Nightbreaker Plus. I will order a set and upload photos once they have arrived.

No, thats H4,

H7 is 64210NBP

According to the Osram web site its 150 hours/ 250 hours

I though Fiat 500 had H7 fitted, not dual filament H4?? :confused:
your original link leads to H7 fitment.

I had looked at the slightly higher output 65W ones (which are not e-marked & not road legal) and did toy with the idea of the PIAA H366 DRLS which again are in the 'same boat' and are not e-marked. If I was going to 'take a chance'on upgrading the DRL I would consider the Polarg M-13 which give a solid white light.

Looking at the 'benefits' of the Osram Nightbreaker Plus some have reported that when they got 7-8 months on the 'old ones' are now getting 11 months on the 'Plus' ones. If does look like a worthy upgrade and in particular on the 'high beam' H1 if you can get then at current discounted advertised prices of around £12.60. Can't understand why the Osram Nightbreaker's were left out of the Autoexpress test but like the Philips X-treme they are road legal.

The Cool Blue Intense bulbs have arrived today, just fitted them, however it is throwing it down outside, so I could only see from a few feet away as I was parked under the cover of the porch to keep away from the rain!

I will post some photos once the weather clears up a bit.

From first impressions though they look much whiter with just a tint of blue which is exactly what I was looking for! :)

Sadly your numbers are correct. My nightbreakers have gone after 11 months which fits in with the ratings you've quoted. I would say with weekends considered, they had about an hour of use per day. My Philips Motovisions lasted more than 3 times that long. Extremely disappointing but not unexpected after the same thing happened with the wifes Legacy.


I'd steer clear unless you want to be replacing a pair of bulbs every year or so.
