Hi,

I have a Punto Evo, petrol, 1.4, made in 2010. And when I start it (cold start), the oil warning light won't turn off immediately (takes a second or two, sometiems even three seconds to turn off).

I've made a video (look at the the oil light at the right side when I turn the engine on):
https://jumpshare.com/s/G2d44kDflBKX5da5zPOU

I already had a mechanic change the oil and filter + change the oil pressure sensor, but it doesn't help.

So, is anyone familiar with this? Anyone had this problem with a Punto? Is it even a problem at all or am I worrying for nothing?

Thank you!

What kind of "mechanic" he is? If there is an oil pressure issue, besides changing the oil+filter, you (he) should check the pressure!
This is my Grande for comparison (oil light goes out immediately - max. 1 s - after start). From cold to hot oil (aggressive test drive).

Your video is not there, wrong link (404 File not found)!
By the way, what 1,4? Which one?

You have (probably) dirty relief valve (partially open), leaky oil inlet pipe o-ring/gasket (or dirty screen filter), or some wear in the engine (especially if it's Uni/MultiAir) or leaky internal seals, gaskets, "o-rings" (like those in the valve cover - 8V), old leaky VVT wheel. If it's 8V, check this Polish forum (LINK).

So you're saying the delay only happens with a cold start? This would probably exclude a partially stuck limiter valve. Maybe a dirty filter mesh on the suction head? Wrong type of oil viscosity? Wrong type of oil filter?

- measure oil pressure (cold engine idling / warm engine idling)
- an engine flush with the engine hot and idling for 10 min, immediately change the oil and oil filter (verify the type) afterwards (without driving) might help

If the maintenance was sloppy with irregular oil changes, or if there's rust on the oil sump (happened to me on my 1996 Fiat Bravo) there might be stuff in the sump blocking the mesh.

I apologise, the link to video expired. Here's a new one:

Yes, this delay only happens at cold start, like in the morning. If I park the car for half an hour and then start again, then the oil ligh disappears immediately.

Oil was changes regularly and oil pressure sensor was changed. So am I worrying for nothing, is this normal (what you see on the video)?
