Hi guys I have a problem with a running light as the dash light suggests, I only get the warning when I put my main and running lights on and when I press my brake pedal, it comes up with “check running lights”, I’ve checked all of the lights and they are working fine, when I press the brake with no running lights or main lights on I don’t get a warning, I’ve just replaced the steering column switch’s and has only started happening afterwards, any help would be appreciated

The switch change could be related , however I would have a very close look at the rear light unit operations as often the electrical plugs get corroded on the aluminium connectors when you unscrew the lamp unit and check the wiring plug etc
It may be worth having someone sit in car and work the different lights and press the brake pedal etc. whilst checking all the lights.
Often a bad earth etc.
It can also be a break in wiring loom in the boot hinge area.
Often when watching the lights you will see another unrelated light trying to flicker or changes in brightness as the fault happens.

Sorry for the late reply, I’ve took both rear lamps off and looked at the bulbs and connectors they all seem fine to me, I also have day time running lights and I know my left bulb connector has burnt out, I had a “check day time running light” on the dash but if I turned my day time running lights off and it would clear the warning, but the warning I get now is “check running lights” even with my day time running lights off, would this be related?

When you checked the connector on rear lamp units did you check the actual plug that comes from the loom as I have had them corroded on the aluminium connectors on Grande Punto.
Also were you able to check the wiring loom that is by the tail gate hinge as that is another problem on many Fiats.

Ive looked at all of the conn

I have checked it and it’s clean, I’ve checked all the other connectors and they are perfect I’m trying to get a hold of a drl holder and see if that solves the problem, if not I’ll take the steering column off and put the old one back on and see if I still get the warning

OK , Please let Forum know the cure to help others.:)

Today I took the broken drl out and changed the bulb and socket and now both drls are working fine, but I still have the same problem, I’ve put a code reader on and it says “left parking light-circuit below threshold” i believe the parking lights are the small bulbs underneath the main headlights, I’ve changed both of the small bulbs and I still have the same problem.

Not LEDs or the wrong wattage?
Also I have seen cars where the different type of bulb has been rammed into the socket (double bayonet in single fitting etc. ) so may be worth checking if previous owner has messed around.:)

The bulbs are correct and the connector looks fine it’s really weird
I might not be offering any help here but just off the back of a recent experience I had:
I was getting "check running lights" and noticed one of the little bulbs by the headlights was out. When I took the rubber cover off to look, it came on. OK I thought. Same again the following week later, same solution. This time, I took the bulb out, gave it all a clean, put back and fine but warning light came on again. This time, the bulb stayed on though and none of my other bulbs were out. After getting fed up of the warning, I changed that bulb and the problem stopped and several weeks later it hasn't been an issue. So, the bulb seems to have been the problem even though it was actually working (?) - maybe swap a few bulbs around and see what happens?

Maybe the old bulb had more resistance due to a corroded contact?

I’ll swap the bulbs about and let you know thank you

Hi again, I’ve swapped the bulbs around and the warning still comes on, I’ve used a code reader again and cleared some codes, when I start the car up again the code reader says “B1062-92, diagnosis anti-tilt module ko- component internal failure” I’ve put the code up on google and can’t find a single trace I don’t have a clue anymore

If you just put that basic B1062 error code in it seems to refer to air con sensor?
What code reader are you using?

My initial suspicion is /was the
connection from the wiring loom to the taillight clusters

I have owned a few 199 puntos

Poor plug contacts are very common on the Early models - GrandePunto

My 2007 would flag the "bulb out",

With lights already on, then Braking
(Your scenario..?)

Basic set-up test was to use lights AND Hazards

Walk to rear of car and see if the Red tail lights are flashing(dimming..) to the time of the indicator relay

Wriggle the plug until the lighting looks stable, then apply brake pressure

This worked well on the simpler Grande, with no message panel

My 2012 has been great with bulbs,

One DRL bulb at 40k, in lockdown

Got a warning for the other last month,
but it has behaved since, now on 80k
The DRL Holders are very crusty / Cooked.. But still work!

1 bulb and a battery since March 2013 😎

Try the wriggling plug with lights on, definitely worth a try..

Are you on the LED Lamp units? 🤔

I believe it’s the LED rear running lights that may be the problem then, but I can’t see it dimming or being unusual, when I have some time I’ll take the lamps off and take the lamps apart and see what I can see, last time I took the lamps off there was a lot of dirt and debris behind the lamps itself

I doubt the LED is your issue,

The vehicle monitors electrical power used,
The warnings are for power use outside of tolerances

Generally using power BELOW what was expected..

Blown, bulb, or LED replacement being common examples

If you have changed no bulbs,
a poor connection is likely

Honestly I don’t know what else to do I’ve changed the bulbs cleaned the connectors even if they look fine tried to clear the code I have my mot soon just hope it passes

I did mention LEDs earlier thread in this post as I have found issues in the past, so may be worth investigating them.
I am not saying definitely that, but they do vary in quality and it is worth checking as could a cheap fix.:)
