Could be throttle body, but could also be loose ECU connector. (Or a number of other connectors in the engine bay).
Check them, and if necessary try some proper contact cleaner on them first. NOT WD40! (unless it's the WD40-branded contact cleaner which is actually pretty good)
Slight ups and downs tend to be air leaks, but major ones are usually electrical.

Disconnect battery negative lead for half hour , reconnect, can you now read codes?

Imobiliser will not stop codes being read.

If imobiliser active warming lamp will be lit on dash.

When key initially turned on does eml light come on for few seconds then go off?

Check fuses especially fuse for ecu.

In addition to checking ecu connectors already suggested.

hi thank you for the info.;),already tried the battery disconnect suggestion. ( as you do on pandas) still got link error on code reader. had 2 fully charged batteries & a clark 1100c jump pack on car. eml light now goes off while cranking engine, immobilizer light on.
where is ecu fuse  . i nearly sold my 55 mj. glad i didnt. cheers, steve (y)

hi, the car is parked in my work compound .i will have to go in morning to check dash lights. will try code reader again & new battery. my m8 has said, i should also check f39 fuse in body control unit , behind obd2 port as code reader wont work if this fuse is blown. i bought the car from him. cheers, steve.

That makes it tricky

check the lights just switched on

And then while cranking. Also while cranking look closely at the rev counter. Does it bounce slightly

Imobiliser light is on constantly?

P0220 is throttle pedal and would fit with it reving on its own. Are we sure this isnt the only fault and the rest is a red herring

immobiliser not going out

no engine start. Engine computer shut down

any spare keys ?

"m8 has said, i should also check f39 fuse in body control"

F39 powers pin 16 of the OBDII connector. Most scanners will not power on if this is blown.

" error link." is normally due to a faulty sensor jamming the can bus line. Normally its just a matter of disconnecting until the right one is found.

"eml light now goes off while cranking engine, immobilizer light on"

double check this doesn't sound right.

Engine check light is controlled by the ECU. ECU doesn't activate until a valid CODE is sent by the body/c

Both the ECU and Body have to have power.

I may have been wrong when wrote earlier that immobilser on shouldnt stop codes being read.

Try a jump lead from the battery - connection to the metal of the engine and another jump lead from the metal of the engine to a clean metal part of vehicle body.

If attempted starting improved or changes then the battery -be cable could have disintegrated under the insulation-not uncommon

hi, 1st of all, thank you for the info/help, guys(y) went back to the panda today with a fully charged battery & my jump leads. on 3rd attempt it started.( only have 1 key) still idle is high at 1200. drove car up & down our works compound it was fine :)so i switched engine off,it showed po120 code ( throttle/pedal position sensor switch a circuit) i erased that.:) tried to start car, no joy. immobilizer light on. i removed the 2 black caps on the ecu & found it damp inside with green corrosion on the pins. sprayed electric switch cleaner inside. cleaned/dried best i could, reconnected battery, but car will not start :bang:the only dash light which stays on while cranking is the immobilizer light.(n) m8 i bought it from said " i never had any problems with it before " yeah, right. he never serviced it or cleaned it in 2 years. a skip on wheels. any more suggestions guys  apart from a phone call to the scrappy.cheers, steve (y)

Ground wires.
More than one car key near ignition can cause immo problems

the car doesn't start when the immobiliser light is on. Its immobilised. Or its doing what it should do.

if you have the Key Code Card its possible to bypass the immobiliser

the common causes is the key or the pick up ring

car starts and idles at 1200 rpm is correct. They idle at 1200 and drop to 850 after a couple of minutes

hi, had another look at the panda this morning. fitted charged battery;) stiill wont start due to immobilizer light:rolleyes:( dont have key code card, only the large remote flip type key).ive removed ecu ,taken it home cleaned corrosion from pins & connector & gave ecu a good blast with the mrs hairdryer, as it was damp inside:eek: will re-fit the ecu & try once more. if it does,,nt run this time, i give up:mad: it will go for spares/repair/parts. or to a breaker. (n) cheers guys. steve (y)
