Technical Noisy tappets

my 95 chinq sx suffers from noisy tappets when cold and I was wondering if I used a fully synthetic oil it would help or would I be wasting my money.

All 903cc/899cc pushrod Cinqs tend to have noisy tappets at the best of times, at worst they sound like tractors. You could try using fully synthetic oil, this may help. I'm sure someone mentioned that Mobil 1 do a good synthetic oil.

Costs about £10 a litre, mind!

would this not make it worse as the oil is thinner it would make them even more noisy

Hi,
Welcome to the noisey tappet club, I tried the 10w40 semi synthetic stuff, made the noise worse, I'm using 15w50 mineral oil at the moment and it has made an improvement, you could also try adusting the tappets if you have an early cinq(part manual/part hydraulic) or get the rocker shaft assembly from the later model with better full hydraulic tappets....

But its a really annoying tapping noise....

i payed a garage to sort them out (on the old cinq) - it just started again a month later.... if you want to ajust them yourself your gonna have to keep doing it reguarly otherwise just put up with it
