you have to be having a really bad day as there's writing on the top side, and it pretty obvious some of the oil ways are going to get blocked the wrong way round
I can't imagine anyone doing the job themselves would make a mistake like this. Sadly, these days, nothing done by a third party repairer would surprise me.
 
If that’s the case i’d take that as a lucky escape then, hopefully if it has been running on low oil pressure it hasn’t caused any premature ware on other components. Strange you didn’t get a low oil pressure light if that was the case though? Glad it’s sorted anyway 👍

Oil pump, sound more like excuse than cause, to me

I could be wrong,

It could be a coincidence it fail at the same time, with exactly the same symptoms, as the head gasket upside down and without an oil light. I don't like to point a finger without proof, I guess we will have to take their word on it, and chalk it up to bad luck

Yes, it does all sound a bit convenient. I’d been going in and checking on progress and saw the old one so at least I know it was definitely changed. In his defence he did seem to have checked and done everything properly, and that was the last thing that it could have been. I suspect it has ended up being the worlds most expensive Panda 100HP head gasket change though. I’m trying to be philosophical about it, it’s 16 years old, I’ve had the car for nearly 10 years and barring routine maintenance and a steering rack it’s been reliable and cheap to run. There was probably a big bill coming at some point, and as used cars are so expensive these days it was the cheapest option.

If it keeps a 100hp alive a bit longer then it’s gotta be worth it! 😀

Our Becky is now 15 years old and my mindset towards her is much the same as yours. She's going to need a new back axle soon and I'm just not able to do this sort of thing anymore so she'll have to go to Kenny's garage for it to be done. We've had her for around 8 years, or is it 9? and I've done so much to her that I'm better off keeping her going than starting again with an unknown - and nothing is cheap anymore.

Oh yes, that does look "tasty". Interesting looking tyres, what make are they and are they directional? My guess would be, obviously asymmetric, but probably not directional?
They’re the new(ish) Toyo Proxes. Fresh on, I hope they’re better in the wet than the old ones (which were awful). Had hoped to put back on Rainsport 5’s (which were great in the wet), but seemingly unavailable in my size. In fact the choices of a quality brand seem to be down to about three these days, I’m assuming because everything new seems to need at least 17” wheels.

Thanks. Toyo make a good product although I've never driven on them. I'm a strong believer in looking first at how a tyre performs in the wet and only then paying attention to it's dry weather grip.

Regarding wheel size, my trailer runs on old school Mini rims, which means 145R10 tyre size. Still available but almost no one stocks them so have to be ordered in.
 
I use to run the original toyo nano and was super impressed noise, grip wet, noise for the cost at the time £30 for the 155s

Very predictable on the limit

Unfortunately @irc has now had some of the nano gen2 fail with cracking on the sidewalls, when I googled, it's not an isolated case, I have no idea if any of the other Toyo range have similar problems or not, or if the problems have now been sorted

I will be watching to see how these hold up, fingers crossed
