Technical Noisey tappets

Hi,
Oh my hgt hates me!
Changed all 16 hydrolic bucket lifters and there noisey on tick over up until about 2,500rpm or I can't hear it over the engine noise after

Any suggestions or ideas ???

Oil change recently?
Hydraulic like regular oil changes

But the hgt has a variator which might need replacing which makes the car sound rough

Last oil change was 14/11/2012 which was 3,500 miles ago.

Changed the variatior 10 months ago.

It's the same hot or cold.

I did notice when changing the lifters that 2 were hard to remove, and the 2 new lifters in the same place were also hard to remove back out.?
