hi assuming this is my wheel rubbing on something prob the arch?>

recently upgrade to 17s
with 205/40/17 tyres
when i do a full lock
you can clearly hear the car wheel hitting something
makes a juddery noise
so i usualy cannot do this

why does it makes a noise?
where is it hitting
how can i overcome it?

when you say judering noise, is it more like when you were a kid and put the plastic bottle in your bike wheel?

if thats the case, hvae you removed the arch liners?

there are just some people that screw you up and dont give a damn, unfortunately i seem to have found that one!!!

is there any movement in the steering?
is there a humm, squeal or whine at full lock?

let go of the steering wheel when at full lock and see if it stops the noise. Its possibly the pwr steering pump complaining if u are holdiing full lock on hard. Also, you are straining the bushes in your steering/suspension system at full lock. Its also possible to loosen cv joint gaiters in this way. try and not steer so hard, see if it really is to do with the wheels rubbing.

also, are they budget alloys you fitted? wolfrace etc are heavy, which affects steering.

17x7 rims with 205/40/70 tyres dont rub under normal circumstances. unless you have something out of place, or the wrong offset? jack it up and have a look in the arches for loose liners, or wear/rubbing marks somewhere

re

i was going to say power steering pump, but if its more of a judderry sound then maybe the wheel is hitting something.

put it on full lock, get out of the car and look/feel roiund the wheel to see if it is touching anything.

or even put on full lock and move slowly and get someone to look/listen.

It might be both - power steering and rubbing on the guard..things.
Same happens to me sometimes on full left lock and reversing - have a look at them :)

I've noticed the exact same thing recently LooseCannon, was too lazy to have a look though.

owwww owww pick me pick me!!

1) powerstering pump.... hold it on full lock and the poor bugger is on constant pump, pumping oil with no where to pump it too..... keep doing this will result in blowing the seal round the pully & will douce the engine in lovely powersteering fluid.

New pumps are £330+vat
New belt is £22+vat

Then if ur really lucky... the alternator will be buggered along with the air con pump....

and supper supper lucky... oil can get into the timing belt so that'll need replacing too!!

2) most likely... the front plastic inner wheel arch lining with the plastic fins on..... the bit at that joind the front bumper to the wheel arch.... the fins just catch the tyre tread as u turn... so either cut them back or remove them completely!

most people just remove them and just remember to wash the mud/stones that collect in the front bumper.

thats all I did when fitted my 18"'s......

good luck!

Tommy K - Have you got the Bottle!!

If i hold mine on full lock, i get a slight juddering sensation thru the steering wheel, but luckily I tend to drive with the wheels pointing straight, so as not to crash into the kerb, lamp posts, walls, other cars, pedestrians, sign posts, bins, bus stops, buses, bins, barriers or anything really.

so i did full lock and looked outide under the wheel
codlnt exactly do full lock as when you turn it and release it turns back aroudn a few cmetres.

anyway

their sis a plastic guard whcih looks like a large vent liek plastic design

seems definite this is what is catchign it

shall i just emove this or do i need it?
what was it used for ??

if removed how do i do it?

please advise

cheers for response

The Bravo/a manual does mention that you should avoid using full lock while the engine is running for the same reason Tommy K mentions.

@matt - glad i aint the only one. oh, and once again...nice colour bravo! :D

lol @ leo
well...it's late. lots of things seem funny when it's late.. :s

the bit with the slats can be removed yes. what side is it on firstly?

secondly, if its the drivers side do you have an induction kit where the oe airbox used to be?
