Hello everyone,

Relatively new two the forum and as a new owner of a 2013 1.2 GQ I'm sure i will be asking a fair few questions as i get to know the car. At present it runs and drives great but the only issue i have is the oil warning light on the dash with the ignition on doesn't light up (not starting engine). The yellow triangle is also lit up so I'm thinking it could be the oil pressure sensor as all the other listed items under the yellow warning have been checked.

Im not adverse to using spanners (have landcover defender also) and had this same problem with the defender. Once i changed the oil pressure sensor the light came back on with the ignition and went out when the engine started.

Ive tried reading the codes but my OBII is very basic and gives me a 'link error' every time i plug it in.

Any help / advice greatly received.

Thanks

Rich

Oil light on engine not running

Oil light off engine running

All sounds Normal to me

1.2 normally have a simple pressure switch unlike later engines

Has something alter by 2013 !

Sounds like the oil switch fixed the first part

Shame you can’t connect a scanner to the body computer

It would tell you instantly what the error is

Might just need a logged code clearing

Most common reasons for the warning ⚠️ is a bulb gone or incorrect one fitted

Is it still there if you disable the DRL from the menu

Are both number plate light working

Does your car have parking sensors

Thanks for all the replies. Yes, oil light not on when engine not running. Should go off once engine starts. I’ll turn off the DRLs to see what happens and post back on here once the switch arrives tomorrow 👍🏻

Hi John, thanks for your reply. I did earth the switch but still no light so for £9 I’ve ordered a new switch. Failing that I’ll get the codes read. I do have a cheap OBDII reader but after going through it’s check all I get is Link Error.

The car has no parking sensors, starts and runs fine so that eliminates fuel cut off etc and all the lights work.

See with a meter if the switch is showing closed ie earthed with the wire disconnected(engine off) if it is the switch is OK starting the engine should go open circuit if it does then the switch is OK and you have at least some oil pressure?

. Once i changed the oil pressure sensor the light came back on with the ignition and went out when the engine started.
This is working correctly
. Yes, oil light not on when engine not running.
yet this isn’t

So I am slightly confused

Maybe a typo

Do you have a multi meter

Measure the ohms at the switch one probe on the switch contact one on the engine block

Should be 0 ohms engine not running

Should be open circuit engine running

if it doesn’t go open circuit you shouldn’t run the engine.

Thank you all very much. I’ll get the multimeter out tomorrow morning and do the tests as a start point. At least it will give me the confidence that I at least have oil pressure

I’ll post my finding once complete.

Regards

Rich

When started are there any warning messages immediately after starting, only last 10 seconds?
Hi John - no warning lights either. If I had low oil pressure would that come up as a warning on the dash? Last time I had the Yellow triangle was when I had to replace the DRLs which also came up as a warning.

To add I’m getting 5v on the oil pressure sensor wire with the ignition on so wires good…..

So after checking with multi meter etc - engine off I’m getting 7.5ohms and with engine on, open circuit 5000ohms and continues climbing. Random thing is that I can even get an open circuit if I touch the black plastic on the oil pressure switch.

Now to wait and get my oil pressure switch

To add…weird things happening. Went to double check and now 0ohms when engine running and 7-10ohms engine off.

I know I have oil pressure as the wife has been using it for a few weeks before I noticed the no oil light.
