[emoji47] yup.... im hating toffee box that plagues the punto.....You're not having any luck in the transmission dept. How many is it now?
Have to be better ways to spend Sunday.
Just the diff by looks of it....You done the box as well again ? or just the diff ? Makes a change I thought it was just Clutches you ate
Not good, you'd think with the 1.2 they'd all have standard box and diff instead of having different tooth counts, fell into that one with Starter Motor (Luckily sent it back on got a refund). Got lucky when i replaced my Gearbox, although i got my mates garage to fit it and they had to use my original diif (for speedo) everything was the same and all slotted together no issueJust the diff by looks of it....
Went scrappies today - got another box
Opened up the diff and it looks healthy toothed
Its a bolted type as well
Slotted it into mine and slapped on the donors cover (as my speedo got damaged)
Only to find out.... they have different tooth counts and it causes the box to lockup....
Annoying after several hours of figuring it out ive rebuilt scrappy diff onto scrappy box and we are now praying to the gods.... it holds out....
Ive never had soooo much trouble gettin a punto box in.... todays really pushed my patience as the splines refused to align....
So 23.30 im now in bed with a car still in pieces.... in a garage id of been fired by now....

You would think so....Thought all mk2/2b 5 speeds were the same. I know the grande Punto looks the same(but has a extra small bolt up and down in the end gear box mounting.)and has a different crown wheel and pinion teeth count.
Is that the only difference?

Brothers have a 1.2 8v 5speed grandeThe crown wheel and pinion, and the actual gears all have different teeth counts, but the housings are identical bar the extra threaded hole,so you can swap internal components into different casings. So swapping gear boxes complete,ie fit a mk2b into a grande works and drops the revs by 500rpm.(but not Grande Punto to a mk2b,as the revs will rise by 500 rpm and scream over revs at you.The grande already sounds like it's geared wrong.) Also as long as the crown wheel has the same teeth count,as the donner box,you can change a five speed to a five speed or six speed with out removing the diff or drive shafts,by leaveing the bell housing on the engine and just removing bolts from around bell housing/gearbox casing, and a few other bits, but it is fiddley to get the two 13mm bolts back into the reverse idler, but it is posible,if you are patient and calm.
