Im thinking.. quaint b&bs? Country Hotels? Local inns?

http://www.hoteldirect.co.uk/ www.travelrepublic.co.uk put the area you want an see whats cheap, then check trip advisor before you book

I tried that with Laterooms and trip advisor, but all you ever get is nasty bad reviews. "Foods rubish, dirty tissue in our bin, couple next door had too much sex, no complimentary loo roll... ect ect.."

I was more looking for recomendations

Before we had kids me and the Mrs used to stay here sometimes: http://www.middlehamonline.com/Jenny Wren.htm

And this place was nice too:

Middleham is a lovely quiet little village, although as soon as the sun starts shining it gets quite busy with day trippers. From Middleham you can easily get to here:

...which I thought was a pretty good few hours of weirdness.

How far do you want to drive? I can't recommend the Ramnee in Forres highly enough, but it might be a bit far away for you ;)

Thanks for the sugestions :) Eklipze3k Forres is a bit tooo North for me, didnt check the address, just saw "Scottish Tourist Board" and closed the page :p

Ive jotted the number down for that Domus place and im going to ring them later :)
Does it have ensuits?

There are only three rooms and they are all en suite. This place does attract older folk and the decor reflects this, but I quite like it.

Another good place we've stayed in recently is the Guy Fawkes in York. We stayed in the Belfry Suite which was a bit pricey, but the quirkiness was worth the cost in my opinion. Also, there's always loads to do in York as I'm sure everyone knows.

I always use the Premier Inns or travel lodges and just take off with no idea where I am going. Point in a direction and away we go. Isle of Wight is a great place as is Cornwall. Eat where you like, no particular times for anything and with the hotels, you know what you are getting. How about a swingers weekend? lol

The Black Box 'disliked' this post. Not sure why because there's no comment, but he/she might know something I don't. Might be worth enquiring....

I grew up in Dorset and anywhere along that coastline is stunning. Swanage, Bournemouth, Weymouth, Poole. My son recently stayed in the Thistle Hotel on Poole harbour with his GF and said it was really nice. If the weather is nice you can get a boat across to Brownsea Island from just outside the hotel.

I highly recommend the best Western in Edinburgh. Upgrade to a 'club' room and get a king bed, plasma TV, Jacuzzi bath and a huge room. Also get unlimited access to gym, swimming pool & sauna.

It's not in city centre so no noise. It a short car / bus ride into town. I've been a few times and enjoyed it.

When we were looking for (what eventually became) our house -- in the Stratford-upon-Avon area... -- we got a little fed-up of Travelodges and Premier Inns (as good as I believe them to be...); and my partner found this cottage for us to stay in... -- twice! :)

It's owned by Stefan Buczacki, the gardener -- which probably won't mean much to anyone who isn't of my generation (or seriously into gardening, of course...)! -- but is wonderfully located in a small, friendly village; is beautifully looked after; is the cosiest thing this side of Bilbo Baggins' hobbit-hole; and, of course, has all the attractions of Stratford and Warwickshire on its doorstep...! (y)

One of the nicest places I've ever stayed... -- and you can't beat the joys of a raging log-burner on a cold autumn evening, after wandering along the Avon...! ;)
