Here's a thought..

Couldn't he sell it to a septic - they would be able to get the thing insured and probably get him on as a temporary named driver. Anyone know an american Fiat aficionado? - they must have an american Fiat owner's club.

Jim could sell it for a nominal sum (say $1) and buy it back at the end of the trip, thus avoiding the pitfalls of being a foreigner trying to insure a car in "the land of the free".

Just an idea..

Cheers,

Maybe import duty would put that out to bat.

How about getting it imported on a carnet (temporary import certificate). Basically a piece of paper stating to officialdom that the item will be re-exported within a given length of time.

We use these for shipping high value items all over the world for demonstration purposes.. don't know if that would appply to Sylvia though :p

 Jims just left my house with Sylvia, and yes it looks like she is sold

He had an offer from someone who has been following her antics over the globe and wants to put her in a museum in the US after her trip there so she won't be coming back home

He came to see if I was alright with this as it's the only way he can fund the trip and get insurance to drive her round America.

She goes on the 18th and will be at her last NIIMC meeting next Tuesday

I'm devastated, but needs must.

theres an idea, loosly fix Asbo, paint it white, and give him that ;)

i cant understand why someone wants silvia in a museum tho, its only done 2 big trips :chin:

Anyway...

Think Stu has went to bed now:D

(and I'm just finishing my bottle after a curry)

So tonight I sold Sylvia (via paypal) for the grand total of $1 (US) to a Mr Mike Bouse of Coldwater, Michigan. I have orginised delivery to New York but unfortunalty he can't collect the car him self so he'll have to insure the car and then put me on his insurance so I can legally drive it to Michigan to deliver it.
May take a number of weeks as I have to pick a few other things up on the way (Like Alan for a start:D ) and then I fly back leaving Sylvia with him under the 1 year tourest visa that she was imported under.

God, the lenghts you have to go, to get into the United States!

But this time I'll have to stay away from Fiat dealers!!!

(and not park Sylvia in gear:eek: )

Just not sure when I get Sylvia back thou as Mike is rather keen on running round in a multi coloured British regiestered RHD Fiat and take it to a few more 'import' shows!

That car has a more interesting life than I do!:p
