General Next Panda Adventure......

it's a little early to be reminising isn't it? Driving the car to a boat a sticking on board isn't quite the driving across america and down to Mexico that it's developed into...

if you falter now it's going to be tough... so! nose to the grindstone etc... we all all looking forward to see the epic unfold via the website... and thanking god it wasn't us.

I wouldn't say that that I was 'reminising' just yet...

Just more giving thanks where it's due cause I never really thought I'd get this far in the first place.

Insurance? I'll know more tomorrow....

Erm.. timing has moved, there's no spark (coil?) and the fuel lines are blocked...

Oh, forgot to update this...

The coil is fine, but the HT leads (or the main one from the coil to the distributor) is fecked. There's 3 fuel filters on the car so we're going to cut that down too. Great for North Africa but useless in this part of the world and it's only giving the pump a headache that it doesnt need (that's why it seemed like we'd bocked lines). The pump is getting moved from the engine bay to nearer the fuel tank too. That should improve the consistency of the flow.

Should get it back tomorrow in time for the Monthly meeting...

All that's left to do is finish the seats off (there's some extra stuffing I need to put in as the other one has 'settled') and the brakes checked and wheel alignment needs sorted too. That can wait to Thursday as I'm off and the Kwik Fit boys are on emergency standby:D

(and I've my dad's credit card on Emergency standby too:p )

AIG insurance got back to me and I've to fax over a shed load of stuff and we should know by the end of the week what's happening. They've quoted round 300 dollars for 60 days cover on Alan and me in the US/Canada. If I go to Mexico I'll have to sort cover at the border.

And that's today's update on the NIIMC/FF Panda2America;)

Ah for Feck's sake!! It's like feckin Buses. Your hang around for ages in the driving rain and then loads come at once!!!

(thou I'm soooo releived that I've finally got somewhere:D )

excellent!... well at least a cavity search won't be required upon entry to the USofA as they'll already have it in triplicate before you even look at getting on the boat to the UK.

Well all the testing of Sylvia was to make her break now before she goes. Funny though she never let me down once even being stuck in traffic on the M1 for an hour :p

Jim change the relay for the fuel pump as well. I forgot to say to you, it stuck on a couple of times after the engine had been switched off. I was for replacing it but you took Sylvia off me to soon.

I worry about that little car in your hands you know.

Now Stuart,

America is going to be a bit of a trial for your wee baby but I'm sure she'll take it without too much drama... Just don't think of here on the free-way dodging mammoth SUV's too much. Think more of her trundling round Central Park, puttering up and down the San Francisco hills in a very 'Love Bug' type way (or 'Love Bear' as it is a Panda)

Anyway....

Right, what's been happening.

Well the computer packed up and I've had to get another one so the Update to www.panda2america.com is just live last night. We're all NIIMC colours now as it will save Steve having to do a whole site. All he has to do is put a link on the NIIMC site and also ask people to visit the NIIMC forum to leave messages of sarcasm and derision etc...

Car wise, we got her back on Tue but was still not running sweet so the points where taken out, cleaned (thou not really needed but thought it would be a good idea) and adjusted (which was needed!) and the car is running sweet now.

On the down side there's a rumbling/moaning coming from the front wheels (I suspect the drivers side as the caliper was stuck on (and there was virtually no brake lining on the pads) when I got Sylvia last year so i imagine that Mrs Rowe has been driving round heating the hub up and killing the bearing.

I ordered two at Mervyn Stewart's yesterday for delivery tomorrow. (well if one has gone the other may not be too far behind and San Francisco is a long long way away to ship a bearing!) So that left me 140 quid lighter for the both sides but the great thing is that Vincent Taggart from Mervyn Stewart's has agreed to ship parts to the US via DHL or such if I get in trouble which is very very helpful of him.

So today it's change the oil, fix the front seats cause some of the foam I put in has settled badly (Tony's thread will come in handy for that, thanks!) and just sit back and relax till next week!
