General Next Panda Adventure......

Well here is the list of things to take with you, but i doubt you will as you didnt on the Moroccan trip....

tyre weld, replacement fan belt, spare bulbs, warning triangle, first aid kit, fire extinguiser, spare wipers, 2 bottles of water (one for the car, and one for you), headlamp beam converters, various bits of wire (in case the electrics go), a couple of spare air filters (arizona dust kills air filters).

you might need another air filter as a spare. If you want more americans to like you, paint the stars and stripes on the car (i recommend on the boot or the roof).

Plan B....

Right this is how it works in our house when I want something (note, you missus has probably used this one a few times on you:D )

Jim (Plan A)
"I fancy a mad trip in the panda, what about Morocco?"

Alan
"No way, The Touareg will steal me and rape the panda!" (I think that's the right way)

Jim (Plan B)
"OK, what about across Russia on the Trans Siberian Highway?"

Alan
"Mmm... Maybe Morocco doesn't sound so bad after all....."

Success!!!!:slayer:

This time Alan preferred plan B.....

Oops.

I've got Todd from Arizona looking into it at the moment so as soon as I get some more info I'll Post it up.

(ps, it's not Cuba.. That would be a Nightmare of paperwork that would make Morocco look like getting into the Ladies Institute.)

America is joining in the cut-price rally craze with the announcement of its first 'Beater Rally'.

The event is based on a successful and hugely popular set of events from Europe where teams have to acquire vehicles costing less than £100 and drive them across the continent.

American competitors get a $250 budget and face a daunting 1500 mile road trip across America.

The first American event is dubbed the BABE Rally, short for Big Apple 2 Big Easy.

Organizer Justin Clements said: "I have run many European events, and because I have a home in America, many friends have urged me to do a similar event there as well. It's definitely a new concept to the States, but I've found amateur American mechanics are equally up to the challenge of preparing an old car for its final trip -- just like their British counterparts.

"Many people enjoy repairing cars in their spare time and the rallies give them an excuse to work on their cars."

Clements stresses that the event has nothing to do with speed or reckless driving, but more with the sheer quirkiness of it all.

"The appeal, I think, is that teams are not really competing with one another, but with their cars. The ultimate goal is to get your bucket of bolts to the end of the route with the most points accumulated from the daily challenges. Most of these cars can barely meet, much less exceed, the speed limit."

BABE2006 starts in New York on May 25 and ends in New Orleans on May 28 and covers around 1500 miles. Registration for the event is still open.

Shame it's in May....:D

that sounds easy, 1500 miles in 4 days. We used to do a round britain run in the 90s with a Triumph club. It was 2000 miles in 24 hours, London, john o groats, lands end, london. Did it in a 1300 FWD everytime and always finished as did most of the cars, doddle it was, just very tiring!

Got this from Fiat & Lancia US

Hi Jim,
Look for a parcel in your mail this week. I sent you a US map book, as well as one on New Jersey and Detroit, some previous Ricambis and a few other goodies. A sticker or two for Sylvia.

Best regards,
John Montgomery

Do you think I should ask him for a GPS system and some good Navtec map downloads? Maybe that's taking it a bit far... Anyway at least I'll have some American stickers for Sylvia.

Went up to get Sylvia this morning from her long winter holiday at Mervyn Stewarts with the trailer (Down load juppy, upload Sylvia, hehe!) and of course she wouldn't start.... After much flaffin Johnny came back from his lunch to point out that Sylvia had a choke and funny enough after this revelation we got the car on the trailer ASAP!:D

No, Mervyn Stewarts hasn't been demolished, I parked across the road to load the trailer!:D

Johnny was all apologies that he'd not had time to set the ignition timing but I told him not to worry as we've over 8 weeks of testing before we go, not like last time where we had 8 hours of work then straight to the boat!

So we where off to Kwik-fit where the ever helpful Richard was going to take over with the silencing of Sylvia's exhaust and the fitting of a set of shocks. He'd been phoning my work to see if I was coming up and my boss said that he'd seen me this morning with a car transporter so more than likely either Richard, Stu or Mervyn Stewarts were going to get a visit. (Little did my boss know it was going to be all three, which i think is a record)

So Richard was so glad to hear that on top off all that the brakes had seized on the front calipers so there was another job for him so like all good mechanics everywhere he parked Sylvia up and went and made himself a cup of tea (Also so he could get his breath back after laughing so much after I told him where we're taking the car this summer:eek: )

I'll be returning tomorrow to collect Sylvia so we'll see how they've got on:eek:
