Hi All,
Sorry first post, did do a quick look through looks like you are all full of knoledge so hope you don't mind me starting with a couple of questions as looking to buy a new car soon!

Currently driving an Ibiza FR 1.9 TDI and have had enough of problems so looking for something new maybe a MULTIJET 120 SPORTING 3-DOOR that I have just seen at local dealers.

Just wondered if anyone could offer any advice on MPG common issues service costs etc as new to the fiat world at the moment.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Personaly I would say stick to the Ibiza if you like i build quality, I went from VW & Seat to Fiat and after 8 months of ownership (from new) ive had enough and bought another car.

Im sure there will be many others whom dont have the build quality & dealer issues ive had, but it was enough for me, constant rattles and little niggles.

I'll agree with the fact they aint major mechanical issues, Just when I bought a brand new car, I expected it to be put to gether properly and not have to either fix it my self, or visit the dealer at least once a month.

Not saying every FIAT will be like that, there seem to be alot of people on this forum that dont have issues, for me tho, I do. Maybe im the minority? im just passing on my points of view.

It's scary how much my cmar could of cost had any of the major faults happened out of warranty!
If it's a new car then I wouldn't worry too much with the 3year warranty.

All my probablems seems to be nothing majour now so I just save them till I got a few then get them done in one go!

Well thats one my reasons for wanting to get rid of my seat I have had a number of problems with it costing me quite a lot of money worst of all being the turbo blowing service is due soon so want to get shot before it costs me more money.

Ideally I would be looking at a 1 year old so would still have 2 years on warrenty although if older will try and talk the dealer into extending for me.

test drive one...everyone has a story to tell, everyone knows someone who knew someone who had one that had a problem etc etc . The thing is cars of all makes share alot of parts these days (bosch, magneti marelli, wiring etc) so you can get faults no matter what you buy.

A one year old GP sounds sensible as it will have any problems ironed out and recalls done etc.

Good luck with whatever you do/choose(y)

:yeahthat: The 1.4 Ibiza my youngest has must be amongst the worst cars for niggly faults, & BUILD QUALITY?... Well its Spanish... almost Italian lol!

61,000 miles now in my 1.9 MJet, I got it re-mapped at 32,000 miles and I have had few troubles, it cost me £9,500 with 1,500 miles on it, 6 months old. 3 years on I still love it to bits!

I'd have another ANY day!

Well just been down to the dealers and the car looks great ex demo so seems to have all the bells, booked a test drive for tomorrow afternoon - wish my luck.

Thanks for advice.

well I had a fabia vRS (as you know, skoda's version of the ibiza FR, same engine box chass ect) and I bought it new and ran it to 80k...

the fiat I bought new and am now up to 91k.. I know alot of people have had problems, but mine has been good, slightly less things gone wrong than the skoda, (just typical, wheel bearings, EGR valve, door lock... little annoyances) better customer service (although I have a very good garage, some dealers are bad) and cheaper servicing with the 18k as apposed to 10k... you may feel its a bit slower than the FR, but a remap can always be done ;) it has better brakes, and better handling (well better handling than the vRS, the FR was always much harder than the vRS, the fiat is somewhere inbetween), and better equip.....

my thoughts for what they are worth

Thanks for the info I think this is the car I want if the test drive is OK garage is next to the motorway so looking forward to giving it a good run out and see how it goes, as for the issues it's ex-demo only 6 month old so hopefully all will be covered by the warenty.

Has anyone got any advise on what to try and haggle the dealer for these days?

Same situation I was in when I bought mine... be cheeky but realistic & keep a straight face. End of month is a good time to help Sales hit monthly targets.

My car started at £10,250... I laughed & walked... he called me back, I offered 9,000. He said 9,750, I said 9,250... we shook at 9,500. Haggle... set your limit, dont be afraid to walk away. Probably a price difference now but work with the figures you have, most Sales people have movement in costs... but not all.
